I don't think that would be a start move on bmw because not everyone is looking for a fast car the 328 has just the right amount of power for practical driving...and with all the gas prices going up they would of lost some sales then since the 328 gets better mpg.

Well, maybe. How about all three (328,330,335)?

The 272hp would be nice in the new 1-Series Coupe. Lighter than the 135i and less expensive.

DI will not impact the performance of the fuel pumps one way or another.

DI has been available in some markets already (like Germany). Its main benefit is increased fuel mileage achieved through a more complete combustion and less fuel requirement for the same cylinder load. A "side" benefit is infact an increase in HP. The fuel consumption benefits are only achieved where higher quality fuel is available, which until 2008 ain't gonna happen in NA.

Yeah - I thought the 330i had been DI (and 272HP) since the 07 model year.

EDIT: Oh - I see Bimmerista's post. Maybe it has been DI only in some markets. Interesting.

Also, don't I remember reading that BMW wasn't too keen on bringing the DI engines over to the US, with our ethanol-laden fuels?

Funny how this forum, so full of 335i owners, thinks of the older 330i as some kind of a slug or something, but 15 more HP suddenly makes it a killer.

The DI is not available in the US is because of the fuel as others have said. More specifically, the gasoline in the US is not as clean in terms of sulphur content.

It's quite amazing to see the improvements in fuel consumption. 25% decrease in fuel usage in city and ~15% decrease in Highway. And now that the 330i is also equipped with DI like the 335i, we can see a substantial fuel economy difference of 20-25% less efficient in the 335i.

No it wouldn't. It would still be a base with 328 wheels and all the equipment, just a better motor.

I mean come on, a base g35 has 270+ HP, why can't we have a base car with that?

335i would still be more expensive, with more standard equipment and more modifiable with the turbo.

In Europe and Asia the 330 sells alongside the 335 without any issues. I agree that here in NA there is room for a third model in the 3 series range of engines. But the wanks in BMWUSA don't see it my way so in Canada we have to follow what BMWNA thinks we want (only two engine choices across body-types for the e90)

1) the N54 (USA 335) is DI
2) we have high quality gasoline, and low sulfer, high quality diesel fuel is also available now
3) did BMW Canada take away the 323?

No, the 323 is still here, here. But not in the USA. The N54 was designed with DI from the git go so when introdued here they did not 'take it away", but the N52 is now available with DI, and I guess soon will be here as well. In NA we don't get the fuel economy benefit of DI with the N54 (in a similar manner that Audi's 2.0 Di engine doesn'it deliver the same fuel economy as in Europe) since our fuel is not rich enough, not until next year I understand, compared to Euor fuel.

1/ i have a 2008 335 on order for week 35 AUG 27 production, i am included also right?

2/ i live in ecuador (cars with european specs), and the 330s they sell here do have 272 HP (my 335 will have 306 hP). BUT REMEMBER GUYS, THE 330s have approx 30 less HP AND have only 315 lb of torque at 2750 RPM, wereas the 335 has at least 300 lbs torque starting at 1400 RPM.

that is quite a big difference... and well worth the extra $mula$ IMHO.
