I have 1200 miles on mine and i've never had a problem like that before. However, you do have to keep in mind that these cars are brand new. The engine parts may not be completely lubricated yet and there maybe small metal shavings from engine pieces. Any of the above could cause such a sound. Hopefully its nothing more serious then that.

Depends on the dealer. If it's only a day or especially a couple hours why even bother. Unless you really need a car and have no other way.

Let the dealer know. They are not obligated to but if they are nice they will.

Depends on the dealer. Some have loaners to give out, either a bmw or something else contracted with a rental company. Some also have a shuttle service.

Better stay for some extra English lessons!

Any sound of metal on metal is not a good thing. I'm afraid if the sound can't be reproduced at the dealer, they will not be willing to rip apart your engine until something goes wrong.

same thing with my car 1200+ to around 2k i get a rattling/knocking sound.

my car is an e90 335i manual.

service states its a puma case and already inspected another car... no conclusion yet. however service states this is normal but they are looking into it ???

the noise kinda sounds like heat shield rattling... but this isnt the case its comming from the engine.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

Two thoughts on some metallic noises discussed here previously -- (1) clutch rattle - normal, you hear it when shutting down the car w/o the clutch engaged or sometimes when engaging the clutch in 1st gear at low speed; (2) metallic ticking noise from engine that varies with RPMs - this a problem of insufficient lubrication (so we're guessing), lifters and camshaft need to be replaced.

You can for more on those topics. Not sure if your issue is either of those, but I thought I'd mention them.

yes... I have smelly feet !

but seriously though

there are at least three different sounds mentioned on E90...

1. rattleing (such as exhaust shield)
2. tapping (such as the lifters)
3. knocking (such as bearings and/or a bent rod)
