Frustration w/ 335i already

I just took delivery last week and not even 100 miles on the car and I already have the 6FL iPod problem of switching to FM radio. Happens too often that it's annoying. I love about every aspect of the car, but what the heck? Can't I at least enjoy the car for a little bit before having to go back to the dealer? On a side note, I wasn't too impressed with the paint job, I know others have complained about the orange peel look of their car's paint. Anyways, other than that, I think the car is great. BTW, I'm a post-March build, specifically June 2007, so I figured I at least have Progman 26. Oh well, I guess I'd rather have this problem than the stupid fuel pump issues.

Come join us in the 6FL FM switching issue thread over at Bimmerfest. The issue isn't annoy...it's the way BMW and (most) dealers are handling...er ignoring...it that is so infuriating.

I felt the same way about the endless posts regarding the cable itself--iPod in the big picture is a very small matter. If you enjoy driving the car, not sure why such a small matter can bring the experience down that much.

I use a $14 cable from amazon that was suggested on this forum, and never have any problem. Solutions don't have to cost an arm and a leg to work. No, I don't have iDrive.

The ipod integration is fantastic, especially if you have idrive. People are just upset because they pay to have an option, and it is frustrating when they pay for something, and it doesnt perform as it promises...

I just got mine last week, it's a 06/07 build and I have the 6FL option, and have not had a single issue with my ipod interface (knock on wood) and I have been using my ipod since day one.

It loads and plays with 20 seconds of turning the car on, it has never switched to FM on me, and it charges fine.

I haven't had any issues with my bluetooth either.

My only complaint at this point is idrive does get slow sometimes and will hang for a few seconds after you press a button, but that's sporatic.

I was initially concerned about the lack of a day/night mode for the Nav screen, but BMW did a good job with its color selections and at no time do I find it overly bright day or night.

Oh, and I also noticed the the display in the instrument panel and on the Nav screen have a anti-sun feature to them, even in direct sunlight, you can see the display.

I think they but a polarize filter over the Nav screen, which for me sucks, cause my sunglasses are already polarized, so during the day, I loose some sight on the nav. screen.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off topic, guess I like talking about my new car, the good, the bad, and the indifferent.

Happy motoring all

Had a new one this weekend. Started the car - iPod came on (as it should) but I COULD NOT SWITCH TO FM - or AM or CD even after I unplugged the iPod and plugged it back in.

Mode switch did not work - FM / AM switch did not work - iDrive entertainment selection did not work. Only started to work correctly after I turned the car off for a 1/2 hour and then re-started. All came up fine. WOuldn't you love to pull over the the side of the road on a trip and WAIT for your system to turn off so it could be re-setted correctly ?? Just MAKES MY DAY !!

I VIDEO TAPED IT CAUSE I AM TIRED OF THE DEALERSHIP TELLING ME THEY CANNOT REPORDIUCE ANYTHNG !!!

This car has TOO MANY software bugs !!!!! I am tired of being BMW's software test group !!!

^^ Good idea video taping it. Hopefully they can get that issue solved ASAP because the IPOD is all I'll be listening to.

Yeah, I agree that if we pay this much, we shouldn't be having these stupid problems. I know it's not such a big deal, but for $48K, I expected a little more. I'm sure the Huyndai folks did their research so they won't have these problems...and if they did, it doesn't matter because it's something I wouldn't get hung over since the car is about half what I'm paying for the Bimmer.

It's a known issue, there just isn't any fix for it yet. Sheesh man, what do you want the dealers to do, engineer some new software for you so your I-pod will work? If BMW doesn't give us the tools to fix it, we are just bystanders like yourselves.

BTW, I have 6FL and mine switches to FM too, you know what I do? Switch it back to the I-pod

It is in almost every car by every manufactor, to a lesser degree on some. The only way to get a perfect no orange peel paint job, is to take the painting out of the computers hands and have it done manually and include wet sanding as part of the process.

Not a permanent solution, but a quick fix when it happens, reset the iDrive by pressing both CD & DVD eject and mute at the same time.

Now, this is not a solution, but it sure comes in handy when iDrive freezes.

There is a fix. Many people have had the MULF-2 HIGH (hands free charging electronics) replaced and that fixes it. Apparently, this fix is not is cost effective for BMW so, according the new service bulletin on this, they want people to wait until October for the next software update, which will fix it (allegedly). I am not waiting until October. I paid $365 for this option and it needs to work. What bothers us is that some dealers claim to have NO IDEA what this problem is, but their are countless people who have this problem and service bulletins addressing it. Also, why is BMW still offering this option when they know it is faulty? I have a July production 335i and I have an this issue. It is just frustrating.

Regardless, I agree with those who say this is minor, because it is. It is a peripheral issue. I love my 335i sedan and don't regret getting it one bit.

Anyone know what exactly is involved with the MULF-2 replacement? Do they have to rip apart the whole dash, or is it less intrusive?

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the 6FL iPod switching to FM. After trying to bring up other service bulletins to replace the MULF-2, the dealer stated those bulletins only applied to pre-March 07 builds, so they opened up my own PUMA case #12060830. They ended up replacing the MULF-2 and updated the Progman software to 26.02.01 which resolved the issue. Hope this helps others out there.

It's amazing how much orange peel is on my new car. Looks like the doors and sides of the car have more than the hood or trunk. Total shit! My last 2 bimmers had beautiful paint jobs with almost none. It's pathetic...
