S5 vs. E92 vs. G37
http://www.motivemagazine.com/pub/fe..._Audi_S5.shtml
very well written. "Trust me, I've been practicing this routine since the '80s." and "In the chronicles of sports coupes, the witch is still on top." - LOL Last edited by omerfar23; 08-16-2007 at 02:21 PM.. |

Of course, when a magazine puts 3-series on top of competition, everybody is like "very well written", but when someone says something like G37 is a better performer, everybody's like "WTF were they thinking?"

Why would you think the S5 would handle better? Front heavy + 4wd makes for some sweet plowing action!

That is a review that I felt I was writing. The pros and cons of each car are just what I have noticed.

i thought audi would be trying to get in on the 335/m3/g37 action and create a better handling car

As for the car comparison E92 is faster, lighter, and nimbler when compared S5 and G37 so I agree it the best of the bunch though I have NOT driven G37 or S5 personally. Last edited by omerfar23; 08-16-2007 at 05:20 PM.. |

Audi flat out isn't interested in going toe to toe with BMW and Mercedes in the performance arena. The S5 and S6 are perfect examples of this. You're basically paying a premium for some very nice styling, quattro and performance that is "competitive" with the other two. Depending on your priorities, you might be fine with this. I personally think they're a pretty piss poor value (new) and that the last really desirable Audi was the B5 S4.

I think the g37 is a great performer, i think it might be better in the twisties, but as far as straight line perfomance or tuning ability i would give the win to the bmw

I enjoyed the article as well. It did a good job of pointing out each model's strengths against the other cars. There was also excellent photography and nice descriptions. Even though the performance numbers were slim, it felt like an even handed comparison.
At any rate, I'm off to drive the 335i and G37 back to back today and try to convince my friend to go with the G (which I have already purchased). I would love to drive/own S5 as well, but that's getting pretty darn close to M3 territory. |

Anywhoo...the article was good. I too, liked the way each model was given plenty of face time and what was said about each.

One of the toughest things for Audi seems to be shaking its reputation as a maker of understeering, front-heavy vehicles. Despite many, many references all over the place to the 50/50 weight distribution of the S5, so many people on this board call it front-heavy.

I wish BMW had a more existing interior. I know BMW interiors has great ergonomics but the interior design should be something that excites both the driver and passengers every time. I love the S5 interior it is so sweet esp. the gauges. BTW i am not a big tech toy fan person either. As for the exterior its not a even a competition.

I'l take the Recaros, but the S5 interior is not one of my favorites. Audi does the sedate, conservative interiors really well. But I don't mush care for their S and R 'sporty' interiors. Red stitching? Meh.

I would ask, is anyone allowed to like what they have? An executive who took us out to dinner had a few drinks and began to tell me how much he loves his wife, despite her weight of nearly 300 lbs. And he was a small guy. I think it's ok that we like our 335's better than an Audi or Infiniti. Let's face it, anyone with a 335 could have bought a G35 or could have waited for a G37, but they didn't. Is a 335 better than a G35? G37? Depends if money is an object. Whether one article praises or condemns the 335 should have nothing to do with how well it's written. That's grammar and sentence structure imho. Motor Trend is well written with maybe a bit over the top analogies. But as a magazine it kind of stinks.

e90 335i - $38,900
e92 335i - $40,800 Audi S5 - Edmunds tested price - $62,000 Quote from Motive article: "Pricing for the 2008 Audi S5 hasn't been announced yet, but when it hits American streets in November, it should cost about $15,000 more than the base 335i." .... so what were you saying again? |

Anyway, I was saying that at that price point, I'd much rather look at the M3 than the S5. |
