The 200 lbs. + weight loss plan for the 335.

Not a new idea -- several previous threads on this topic -- but one of the most important things you could do to improve the overall performance of the 335 is lose weight. That was seeming like a very difficult thing to do, but I just totaled up some simple mods and the losses are substantial: wheels 7 lbs each, tires 3 lbs each, coilovers (w/ Swift springs) 6 lbs each, rotors w/ alu hats 5 lbs. each, M3 alu suspension bits 6 lbs front axle, 8 lbs rear axle, exhaust 20 lbs, DPs 5 lbs, mini battery 30 lbs, take out tool kit and other unnecessary stuff (ww fluid, mats, manuals), and we are getting close to 200 lbs, much of it unsprung weight. Race seats and cf hood & trunk lid = another 100 lbs. That is going to make a significant difference in handling and acceleration.

I always make sure I pee before I get in the car. That also helps reduce weight. As an added benefit, I feel more cumfy, less bloated, and make fewer stops.

Well, I went for a frontal lobotomy, but it only saved a couple ounces...

wheels, tires - unsprung

exhaust, tool kit, unecessary stuff, etc - sprung

Good luck on the car diet..

while thats a good idea i dont think you'll be anywhere close to 200lbs with just those things, i think your estimates are very optimistic and there are other things such as cf hood and trunk that can help if you're looking for every pound

I was going to say this as well. Some of those numbers are extremely optimistic.. Take before and after weights of each part coming off, and new part going on..

A CF windshield would also contribute, but they are difficult to find.

The 335i Coupe weighs 3,571 lbs. but on the moon it only weighs 592.78 lbs.

I need to talk to the guys at Nasa; I think if I offer them a few drinks it should do the trick .

The figures are not optimistic, if anything they are a bit conservative. Some of the data are estimates in that I have not weighed all the items on a quality scale, and some of the data are manufacturers published claims. I weighed my OEM 162s w/ rfts at 58 lbs front and 62 lbs rear. The replacement M 193s with Pirelli P0s were 44 lbs and 47 lbs. [= -58] There are lighter forged rims available. The advertised weight loss for H&R coilover aluminum Premiums is 8.5lbs. each. [= -34] The Hotchkis hollow sways are typically about 15 lbs. lighter than OEM. [= -30] The Vishnu and other premium exhausts are claiming 25-40 lbs lighter than OEM. [maybe - 30] The Riss Racing DPs reportedly will have a "huge weight savings" viz Charley aka CEA3. [maybe -15 - 30] The mini-battery is more than 40 lbs lighter than stock -- see
https://s.p10.hostingprod.com/@www.v...dfc395a01a89c6.

All that adds up to about 210 lbs. [58 + 34 + 30 + 30 + 20 + 40 = 212] I figure another 10 lbs with toolkit, manuals, extra floor mats, etc.

I agree that CF trunk and hood would be significant, maybe another 25-30 lbs each, and lightweight Recaro seats maybe 30 lbs each too, but that is getting expensive.

I was just surprised that mods that I wanted to make for handling and other purposes could add up to a significant weight loss.

You could also plug the sun roof. That would both save weight and lower the CG.

I'd keep the engine and gas tank, but it's just amazing how much weight you can lose with a Sawzall!

There are less expensive ways to lose 200 lbs, but I was after the performance benefits of the tires, coilovers, sways, DPs etc. regardless of the weight benefits.

The battery and a few of the other ideas (seats, CF trunk lid, ...) would be just for weight loss.
