E92 seatbelt helper does not retract completely

My passenger seat seatbelt is malfunctioning. It doesn't retract all the way. Picture included. Is there an easy fix that will avoid the dealer?

I think one of my retarded friends decided to touch it while it was retracting....they make it way too fragile.

yeh, ok I'm going to try to explain it as simply as possible. that's a safety feature of BMW. what you can do to fix it is closed to the and while the arm is still out, hold on to the arm portion, and push on the hand portion of the seat belt assistant, until you hear a click. then let the arm go. it should fix it, if not just pm me and I'll try to describe it better.

Good luck, that should solve the problem. But, why do you avoid dealer?

Because they take forever! Plus, I don't want them to start taking things apart.

+1 On my other car, the leather seat "cover" was replaced when brand new under warranty. For the next 7 years to date, I've lived with the back of the seat falling off. After taking it back 2 more times after the initial visit, I gave up. Sometimes stuff is better left to the factory...once messed with it's not the same.

haha I can totally relate to this. i've already decided (and let them know) that certain friends aren't going to be allowed in my car when it arrives. I've heard a lot of people saying the arm is very fragile though, and I know it's going to be a hotspot for dumbass-friend-breakage.

I keep telling myself one day they'll buy something nice....

I've had 2 rear passengers take my belt and try to buckle themselves in...

That seat belt butler (or whatever its called) is way too fragile... There are also many times where it misses the seatbelt...

They should have a way to conveniently disable, at least for passenger side, particularly the occassional passenger that never can figure out how to use it. Mine died for awhile which was fine, but then it sprang back to life.

Mine does it once and a while I usually pull out on it until it clicks about 3 times, the cram it back in, and it works. At least for about 6 more cycles, then I have to manhandle it again!

yeh these seat belt assist are some what fragile. We've actually replaced some of these, because people break the arm and it wont spring out correctly. but in the other hand it makes the car look really high end

Well the fragile part is yes and no. Like I said, when mine acts up I yank the s**t out of it, then wedge it back in there pretty damn hard. It's still kickin'! One time I pulled out on it so hard it came all the way out, and went into two peices, and a spring! I had to put it back together and jam it back in there. It started working again! I think all in all I have fixed it about 7 or 8 times. One day it's just gonna quit, but I'm not taking it in for repairs until then.

mine was acting up as well then it fixed itself, well after I shoved it back in really hard a few times, for now it's working. But I've noticed that it comes out when I exit my car and retracts back in quickly, which is strange.

Mine happened for the first time the other day. Just clicked it back in and it's been holding. If it keeps disengaging, you should bring it in and have the arm replaced.

It comes out whenever you open the passenger door, before or after you turn the car on. The only time it won't come out when you open the door is if the seatbelt is already buckled.

Mine actually broke off on the passenger side the day after I got my car, not even kidding. Those things are so cheap and useless.

Mine got stuck before and could not retract because something was in the way. I heard 3-4 clicks and I thought it broke.

Just shoved it back in and it's like nothing happened.
