Tips/Trick with Steptronic

Hey everyone,

If you know of any (serious) tips or tricks about the steptronic/auto transmission, post them here!

Please no stupid comments that are obvious (such as... "oh if you tilt is to the left, it goes into sports mode and if you go up and down, it changes gears) haha

Thanks.

While at a complete stop, put the car in neutral, drop it to D, then back to neutral, then back to D, then over to DS, you have just initiated the automatic launch control. Now just pull the e-brake up and floor it. The computer will control your wheel spin so you have a perfect launch.

Its pretty much the same thing as launch control for the SMG.

Dont buy one...

And no dont listen to that person that is not was launch control on an SMG car is. LC it holds the RPM's at 1,800 and quickly pulses the clutch and bam. LC in the US is not good since 1,800 RPM's is not much. On my E46 M3 I was always better off sitting at the light slightly tapping on the gas pedal and the RPM's would rise without the SMG clutch engaging when I got it to 3k I would floor it and sometimes it would click right away with wheel spin or other times it would bog down.

My CA told me this at delivery. I'm sure it's in the owner's manual if you read it upside down.

Did you do the whole process in less then 15 seconds? If you take any longer then that, the computer will think your just going from neutral to drive, not initiating launch control. Try it again, but this time faster, im sure it'll work.

If you actually tried it, i'd be more worried about your sanity and e-brake then your gas.

oh wow......... it worked for me... i was smoking all kinds of ferrari's at the track yesterday... , if you dis-engage DSC, you feel so much more extra power, i must have been pumping 350-400 ponies.... i rmoved my hood while racing though, there wasnt enough air getting to the engine with it on.

This is what I do.

Step 1:: Put car in Drive
Step 2:: Put Left foot on Brake while right foot on gas
Step 3:: Turn DTC OFF, NOT DSC(To much wheel spin)
Step 4:: Slowly tap gas while your other foot
on brake and tap gas until RPM reaches 2,000 RPM
Step 5:: Take your foot of the brake and floor the car.

That's how I do Launch Control.

It's pretty fun:rocks:

If your manually shifting, but need to answer the phone or something, yet want to stay in a sportier mode, biatch-slap the shifter right/left and you are in DS.

Ok here is a real trick. When driving in any gear 4 - 6 you can downshift only using the accelerator in DS mode. If you lift, say in 6th and tap the accelerator the DBW throttle thinks you are going to accelerate so it downshifts to 5th. Try left foot braking with multiple taps and it will quickly downshift to 3rd. It does not seem to work from 3rd to 2nd.

Granted this is just a trick and I still prefer doing the manual shift, but if you have a donut in one hand and a coffee in the other this works great!
