Someone Who knows these cars,..answer this question...
What is the difference between the 325i and the 330i 2006 MY in terms of technoloogies, options, and features available
I heard that the new engine weight saving technologies are on the 330i and the 325i is basically a carry-over engine also, several options such as active steering and steptronic are not available on the base version. Can anyone explain the difference ? THANKS> |

The US 325i and 330i share the same engine block and displacement. Options wise, the 330i comes standard with xenon headlights, and the premium package option on the 330i cost less than the one on the 325i. Otherwise, they are essentially identical aside from a few trim items such as the chrome around the door windows, the color of the roof rails, lower grill front bumper trim, and chrome tail pipes (stock on 330i). Standard wheel options for the non-sport and sport version of 325i vs 330i also vary.

The 325i, 330i, and even the currently sold 328i all have the same engine in them, which is a 3.0L Aluminium / Magnesium engine. The only differences between them are in intake manifold (which itself is identical on the 325i and 328i) and in engine computer programming. These differences are what accounts for the varying horsepower outputs of the three cars (325i = 215hp, 328 = 230hp, 330i = 255hp).
The N52 engine (which is what powers these cars) is the lightest production 6-cylinder engine in the world (as of 2006 at least), weighing only about 350 pounds or so.

Joey, you really need to put a little effort into your time spent on the forum if you want to get the most out of it.

There are some different parts, besides options and the engine/ECU mentioned already, like different sized brakes. Also, I thought the exhaust and transmissions were different.

The standard/option list depends on your geographical location. i.e. Canada/USA.
The 328i is actually an updated version of the 325/330i engine named N52KP. So it's not really the same engine as the 325/330i. |
