New-bie needs some help with car choices.
Hi , pretty new to cars considering I've never owned one. I'm 20 going on 21 this year and live with my parents who've agreed I need a car to get to and from work and school.
I've saved some money up and they said they'd help pay for the difference but I have a few choices and I wanted some better opinions because of how new I am to the market. There are 3 choices, the first choice isn't a sure thing but if it happens I personally think it's the best choice. 1) 2011 550xi sedan, 20k miles. Used for a company employee to drive to and from work. I don't have many details about the car but I know it's fully loaded from what I've been told and doesn't have any abuse at all. Of course I'd like to look at it but like I said it isn't a sure thing and the company laid people off so they simply need to get rid of the car. $35k or less, depending if we can haggle it down. 2) Parents were out by family and stopped by a dealer in Long Island and they still had some new 2011 328xi sedans, here's what they copied off the sticker: black dakota leather premium package garage moonroof dimming mirrors power seats lumbar support interrior mirror/compass bmw assist w/enh BT and USB value package 17"alloy spoke wheels heated seats ipod and usb adapter all wheel drive steptronic auto trans heater wheel transmission type contr dark burl walnut trim headlight washers climate control ambiance lighting Some of that might be my own short hand but I'm sure you can see what it has. $33998 3) The only reason choice 3 is here is because whenever I thought my own car I wanted to have it built the way I wanted. Choice 3 would be a new 2013 328xi sedan. MSRP on the bmwusa site is around $44465 at the end and I added the sport package to it, how much would this cost at a dealer? Also, if I were to have whatever I wanted added/removed is there anything that is a must have? Thank you to anyone willing to help a new buyer. Reasons for why you picked choice 2 over 3 or visa versa would be great, thanks. Last edited by Shmouzer; 02-15-2013 at 08:23 AM.. |

hmm I would go with option 3 newest car, most reliable, under warranty. 5 series is more of an older gentlemen car us younger folks need to stick with the 3 series . Is 2 a coupe or sedan.

The 5 series fell through/is taking too long and my dad and I are going to a bunch of dealerships to look around.
Thanks for your input, we're leaning towards a new car because we like the idea of me being the only owner. I think I'll need the xi for snowy days in NYC. |
