Mercedes just gets it right. New S-Class undisguised.

That is a sexy sedan. Best looking of its class. Or at least equal with the A8. Blows the 7 series away.

The A8 and its droopy headlights is the ugliest car Audi has built in a long, long time. The XJ is still leagues better than any of ze Germans and Maserati probably bests them too, but I haven't seen the new one in person.

The front scoop looks like a sad whale. The rest is decent, although it looks big.

Honestly the 7er blows. Way...way...way in last place in the segment. Would rather have a Jag over it.

This and the Jag are my favorites. I can't say which until I see this (especially the AMG variant) in person.

Yes, I'm fully aware how Hyundai copied features from a few "competitors"... was just trying to concisely say that the design doesn't do much for me, and I thought MB would've pushed the envelope further on the exterior.

Those grille slats and front clip are my only issues with this. They just look frail and thin compared to the rest of the body's thick and sculpted surfacing. The rest of the sheetmetal oozes big daddy luxo, though; something that the 7-Series hasn't gotten right in the last two generations.

Yep. The CLS AMG stays the most beautiful MB imho. By a mile.

I love it, the rear looks like mayback + rolls royce.

but still like the 7er better because it looks more aggressive. Can't wait to see the AMG model.

Is it me or do the older generation flagships, w140 or e38 for example, make a bigger statement than the modern cars?! This car is beautiful both inside and out, but it's positioning with buyers perplexes my "traditional" views on what a flagship is meant to be.

I don't mean to say that the new cars aren't gorgeous, and typically of the same exceptional quality if not greater, but there was an altogether different presence to the older cars... more understated, and in many respects weightier with more attitude. I always saw the older generations as cars that commanded respect through that presence and timeless elegance, rather than making a statement by being an object of beauty or an expression of modern design. To me, the e38 and w140 were true flagships, these modern Ss and 7s are just bigger Es and 5s.

Could be I'm just stodgy though?!

To me, the W140 S-class is the best looking s class ever made. When that car came out and you saw it in person, on the street, it had a presence to it. Still looks great even 20 yrs later. Even the S-coupe of that day looked the best. Todays cars all try to look like each other.
