From my understanding Persian is an ethnicity and Iranian is a nationality? For example, in Iran you have the Persians, and other groups such as the Azeris and the Kurds, etc. hopefully someone who knows can chime in and verify

I used to think "Persian" was offensive (had not actually known any), until early twenties I met this guy from Vancouver (chinese) who said "that's what they call themselves".. up to that point I thought it was the equivalent of calling east asians "Orientals" ...

i say i'm egyptian
you dont say i'm latino when you are mexican

i think its the iranians who left iran after the revolution that use the term persian, as they want to distance themselves from todays iran
