2013 Matte Grey Mercedes SL550 photoshoot *many pictures*
Well, I personally think that this car is quite beautiful, even though many may disagree
But, if anyone of you guys saw the photoshoot I did with my 335is, I took my dad's SL550 to the same spot and took some pics! I also have some with the car outside our house. So, tell me what you guys think (I'm expecting a few haters, but I do personally LOVE the look of this car, and don't think it differs that much from the outgoing model (except that its MUCH faster, and has a better interior!) So, please enjoy! --- --- --- And a couple of other shots for fun...

Great photos, thanks for sharing. MB does know how to make luxury car well. The new SL might not be pretty to everyone's eyes, but it does look expensive especially seeing it in person.

Cools shots, certainly makes me miss LA.
I think it's really just the headlights and the Infiniti J30 rear end that bother me, lots of little details are pretty cool on the newer model. |

The outgoing model was definitely beautiful; but there is just something new about this SL that I really like. Idk, maybe its because my dad has one, but I really do love the looks headlights and all! And the performance is crazy in comparison. If I'm not mistaken, this base model SL has almost similar performance to the outgoing SL63... I pulled a 4.2 second 0-60 and the car wanted to pull more! Quote:
thanks!

Exterior is growing on me, to be honest. Starting to like the angles a lot more.
Obviously the car itself (in terms of driveability/prestige factor) I've always had great respect for. |

I've always liked the styling, it was just different, more exotic coming from the classic benz look. But I can see how many would disapprove.

So I have to ask; why this and not the R8 V8? Isn't it in the same price bracket? Don't get me wrong; I understand the appeal of the SL, it has historically been the benz to have, but the R8 looks, feels, drives circles around this thing

My friend's dad is a neurosurgeon who also purchased a new SL550 just last year. Could've easily bought the R8 as well, but that's not what he wanted. I mean I've never specifically asked him why he chose the SL550 over similarly priced cars, but clearly there's a market for it. The R8 is a step more towards "exotic" in my eyes which is why for me it'd be a no brainer, but many people do prefer the more modest SL550. Although when I say "modest," I mean the SL550 is more modest in terms of appearance alone. In terms of price or prestige (which really is just a function of price, assuming you pay cash for a car) the SL550 is very comparable to the V8 R8. The v8 R8 also benefits from sharing a similar appearance to the more expensive V10 R8 which probably enhances its prestige factor for some. The v8 R8 looks like a $150k-$200k supercar at a $110k-$120k price, while the SL550's appearance is more commensurate with its actual cost. The SL550 looks like a $110k-$120k car. |

Nice shots for sure. I am curious as well to why your father picked this car out of everything else in the price range? I'm sure he loves the car regardless!

Correct me if I'm wrong but your post sounded a little defensive to me. I was under the impression that you made it common knowledge that you had the IS350 while your dad had the M3 (although obviously you've driven it plenty of times).
I was just assuming your dad switched from the M3 to to the Cayman S because you still list your IS350. I mean if he bought it for you that's cool also. How do you like the Cayman S over the M3? I don't care who owns it. I just wanted an honest assessment of what you or your dad thought about the Cayman S over the M3 (better driving experience? Does the M3 excel at anything that the cayman S doesn't excel in? Things like that). |

The only reason I remember is because our lives are analogous in many ways. We're both indian males in our early 20s and both of our dads are doctors. I think you mentioned that you're in medical school now (or you took the MCAT a few years ago or something, so I presume you're in med school now). You mentioned this in one of the local TX/OK threads a couple of years ago IIRC. That's the only reason I remember. I was genuinely just trying to get a fellow member's appraisal on the cayman S vs M3. That's all. My apologies if I offended you. |
