Got a chance to see a G37S in action today.

Well I go to a school down in florida where there are far too many nice cars. Its like one big car show every day. If there is a new car coming out chances are one will appear in the parking lot. Young guy about 19 who had a Stillen Supercharged G35 recieved his G37S about 2 weeks ago. Let's just say he has been talking crap about the 335i every time i see him. Damn magazine articles are good at selling cars but not always the best at bench marking them. Well he took me for a ride and i smiled (because its very different than my 350z that i had 2 years ago and they actually made it look much nicer) But he decided to pass a comment like you will be seeing my back license plate a lot this semester. Being the bigger man I kept my mouth shut and nodded in agreement. Car is fast, it really is. Is it jaw droppingly fast? No, by no means. Will your TT, Procede, AA tune be faster? Much. Well I pull out of school today after class and there he is on my ass. We reach the light and he rolls down his window and starts saying this and that and I told him why race me if he knows his car is faster. (simply trying to keep it off the streets) Because fate is a terrible wench we pull onto a road that is about 2 miles long 4 lanes wide with a concrete divider. From a roll in first it only took 2 trips to 6400rpms and a shift into 3rd. (Besides the fact that my car is pretty loud, I don't talk about my mods at school, most think i just have a cat back. My exhaust tips are 2.5 and look extremely similar to stock ones. Most think they look puny. I am not too happy with finished product but car sounds great and just flat out moves) Long story short we 335i owners have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to those pesky G37 owners creeping up. Lets just say 5 car lengths is a generous estimate. I don't encourage racing on the streets and there is no safe street race. Just thought I would share an experience I had today with everyone. Thanks for reading.

lol! Nice kill!

Was his G37s a manual or automatic?

And did he have anything to say, afterwards? Guess he'll be seeing your license plate more than he thought. lol!

automatic/paddles The paddles nowadays are so impressive. And to answer the second question we parted ways, no worries though he will have class with me tomorrow. I am as low key at school as I can be. I am 22 nearly 23 and have 2-3 years on most of these kids so I feel no need to act like I am above them. Work came first for me then school. But he can't say anything besides "wow, you were so far ahead of me i couldn't even see your license plate"

I was trying to just let him go without having to make him feel bad about his new car. Not only that, but his car is brand new. He shouldn't be pushing it so hard yet. Either way, the road was wide open in front of us, and had 1 car behind us who was stunned at seeing a g37s.

Or he will be a fairy and say something like i wasnt even racing you. Either way us 335i owners have nothing to be worried about when it comes to nissan or infinity... Until the Skyline comes out...

Having been a 350Z driver since 03 it doesn't surprise me that even the hotter engine is still not up to a 335i. I don't know how they get so little torque/HP to the road. Must be the diff. Still, the G37 is a nice car to own and drive.

I was shocked that it was only 5 car lengths, but then I looked at your mods and see that you don't have the PROcede.
Some G35/37/350Z owner are really cocky, for no reason really...their car is not THAT special.

I know what you are saying...but for some reason I thought he had the PROcede which would have been total rape.

The custom tuned Xede is for his DPs, since procede cars with DPs haven't been doing very well performance wise. I'm curious to know how Custom Xede+DPs compare to procede or procede v2

Be careful, you're just about to start another PROcede vs. Xede discussion

I had procede. I switched and couldn't be happier. My car is obscenely faster than it was. The problem is the boost spikes throughout the powerband. For me it was spiking 3 times. It would spike and then fall off and rebuild boost and spike again and finally drop and rebuild till it would spike just before redline. But after the tune i hit 15.2psi EARLY and hold it till I shift at 6400. It feels nothing like R5 or R6, which is fast but doesn't really give that push like procede. I am considering toning it down some worried about running it so high but so far so good. And btw i gave that estimate at around 70+ MPH and maybe 5 seconds or so of pushing the car it would have been more like 10 if i went all the way to 4th. He was so far behind it wasn't worth me continuing.

Why is this? I drove the g35 and it didn't come close to the feeling that the output numbers would imply. Did they build a transmission filled with taffy mated to a CSD (constant slip differential) or something? They would have a great car on their hands if they could manage to put the power down. Heck, I almost bought one till I took a (wasn't really a) quick drive.

Anybody have a mechanical explanation?

uhh no... The G37 puts down the power quite well actually - it has less than a 15% drivetrain loss. No mechanical explanation necessary, it's just a heavy car.

He didn't race a speaker so I think it's an InfinitI. The Skyline is out, it's called the G37... But yes, the car to be worried about is the GT-R (now separate from the Skyline nameplate).

Ha ha...nice kill!!! I had a feeling that those G37 guys would start talking sh!t about how their G37 is faster than the 335i...which is completely false anyhow; even the car mags saw the stock 335i run ~ 1/2 sec. faster from 0-60mph and almost 1 sec. faster in the 1/4 mi. It's nice to see that an AA XEDE 335i (or PROcede 335i) walks a G37...haven't come across one yet, but it's going to be A LOT of fun running with these guys, he he.

Ummm no bro... The G37 is no skyline or anything close... In 2009 Nissan is releasing the Skyline built on a chassis only made for that car and its not shared with any other model... It will have an insane all wheel drive system and the best model will be light and push 530-550 crank hp... I will get rid of my 335 in around 2010 and get one...

Unfortunately, you don't really know what you are talking about. In Previous generations (R34 and earlier), Skyline and Skyline GT-R shared the same platform, many body panels, interior, etc. In the current generation, the GT-R will be separated from the Skyline Platform as an all new model. The Skyline is marketed as a G37 here in the US (V35 and V36).

So, it seems in 2009 you want to buy a GT-R not a Skyline (G37). The GT-R has the twin turbo engine and AWD, the Skyline does not. I am a little surprised that you say you are going to buy one considering you seem to know so little about it. At this point, horsepower numbers and weight figures are only educated guesses based on the limited amount of rumors which have come from various sources. There will likely be 3 models with variable engine tunes and weight reduction.

As for the comment regarding a G37 not being a Skyline, a simple google search can dispel that:
