I know it's a stupid question. But aren't the e36 m3 and e90 330 essentially the same engine?

Yes there are a few options for forced induction. Dinan makes a good supercharger for it, but like all dinan parts, it's ridiculously expensive.

The e36 M3 would have the s50 in '95 or s52 in '96-99. There are a few options for supercharging.
Stage 1 is non inter cooled, typically about 6-8psi. Stage 2 I inter cooled, 10-12 psi. Best bet, is to find a complete used setup. Stage 1 kits are about $1500 used, 2000+ for stage 2. I lucked out and got a $10k stage 2 setup used for $1800. I put down a gain of 150whp at 13.1psi. A stage 1, you a lucky to crack 300whp, a 60-80whp gain.
