Shell V-Power Nitro+

Just got an email about this. Did a search some forums are saying it is 102 octane. Of course most people think that is great, but to me that screams ethanol!

Anyone have any more info on it? Shell's more info is practically useless.

I thought it was just a re-brand of V Power @ 98 RON. Isn't there a Nitro + Racing thats 102 RON?

According to this page it is different to v-power:

If it is 102 octane then great, I'm not fussed about the additional ethanol content. 335i's in the USA have been run on 100% e85 with a few modifications for long periods with no obvious adverse effects. Just as long as they don't charge £3 a litre.......

However I fear that is all a marketing exercise and it will contain exactly the same stuff as v-power

I had the same email so was reading about the Diesel Nitro +. As said though the info is pretty limited. Might give a couple of tanks a go though

The diesel nitro+ sounds like total nonsense. I fill up on V-Power but won't be paying any more than I do today THAT'S for sure..

Personally I'd rather have no ethanol. It is worse for MPG due to lower energy density and it is corrosive!

US fuel is all like a minimum 15% ethanol, which is probably why they have so many more issues with HPFP. Even their premium fuels are ethanol heavy. Unfortunately even here now they are forcing oil companies to dilute fuel with ethanol. Shell used to claim V-Power to be ethanol free but I don't think that is the case any more. I was wondering if this rebrand is their way of making V-Power 10% ethanol.

Other people are suggesting it is 100RON with a more expensive 102RON version available.

Yeah, it's this.

I filled up from the V-Power pump and asked about when they were getting the new stuff (thinking it was slightly odd that there were banners everyone yet nothing labelled at the pumps), and was told I'd just filled up with it.

Straight replacement and no increase in price... I don't think, try not to ever look at what the price is at my local!

I filled up last night and noticed the VPOWER nitro+. I was tempted to give it ago but didn't thought ill read about it first. I just thought of it as marketing the VPOWER with different name for attention.

I don't think so... I doubt the guy on the counter would have known, but I couldn't see anything from the email blurb I looked at when I got back home. Would have thought they'd have mentioned it if there was?

The UK governments stance against problems for older engines with ethanol is that premium fuels can be just 5% max ethanol. (v power has been E5 for a few years now).

Thus you should also use E5 in anything with a carburetor - lawnmower, chainsaw etc too.

My understanding was V-Power used to have no ethanol and Shell used to back this statement. However Shell no longer back that statement which means in all probability it is now 5% ethanol.

Interesting.

I've been considering running my car on an ethanol mix as they do in the USA. Whilst there is no supply of E85 at the pumps anymore, you can buy E100 (TSDA 9) from approved suppliers and store it in a garage etc - with the appropriate licences (free)..

TSDA 9 in a 1000 Litre IBC would cost £1.15 per litre delivered. This makes it marginally more expensive than 95 RON when you factor in the reduced fuel economy..

Unfortunately in a 205L drum (what I'd be more tempted by) its £2.20 per litre delivered.

Filled up £30 today, normally go for V-Power anyway but since its replaced with Nitro now. So no option!

Took the leaflet in the shop and it says its RON99 plus 25% more friction additives thingy magig compared to the previous V-Power. Felt smoother - but probably imagining things.
