R U Faster Than a Redneck Cars
Driving home and saw 2 of the camaros from the show. The host may act like an idiot but the cars are legit. They both sounded amazing.
Sorry it was raining and couldn't snap a pic. |

its an interesting show. saw an episode with an e39 m3 went up against one and got beaten pretty bad cause of the power difference in the straights. then there was a fully modded GT-R that nearly lapped the yellow mustang and won the 10k! seems like they dont really have any restrictions like you could bring a porsche turbo and they would try and race you

There is a guy with a Hennessy 650HP supercharger Camaro in my neighborhood. I've seen him downshift to 3rd, and while doing 30MPH, slight acceleration we could kick out the back end.
So, nope, my car probably isn't faster! Of course, speed is all relative. I know I can hook up and most likely out handle him, but in a straight line drag where he has traction, I'd have a stellar view of his taillights. LOL. |

Yea I think a lot is unfair but to see these cars just rolling down the interstate was nice. Good to know they get driven.
One of them was the grey F body. I'm just on sport suspension but it sat 2" lower than mine and the front wheels had to be 10" wide |

Speed Channel's website has some videos on the set-up on those cars. 325 series tires, adjustable suspensions, lowered, gutted, 600+ HP supercharged V-8's. Not your typical redneck cars! The best episode was when a guy won the 10 G's in an Audi Avant!

Cool stuff I just started watching that show this year. Haven't seen one BMW win that $10k tho. Really want to see a FBO 135i or 335i out there.

There really is something special about a well-made American car. I want the US auto industry succeed, because a rising tide float all boats, including BMW.

Wait a minute, you saw the redneck cars on the road, driving in the rain?!? All I ever seem to read about them on message boards is that they are purpose-built, gutted track cars that are barely street-legal. The truth is, almost all of those cars get driven on the road quite a bit, rain or shine.
The gray Camaro is owned by Brian Finch, who resides in the Nashville area. The Goodguys show was in town last weekend too, so he was probably out shaking the car down and getting ready for the autocross. I believe Roger Burman edged out Brian last weekend (his car looks very similar). Brian has driven that Camaro all over the country, including road trips out to Las Vegas, where he raced it at Spring Mountain and then drove several thousand miles back to Nashville. Brian will be at Road America next month, competing in our Faceoff event, which will also be televised. If anyone would like a crack at him, it's a great opportunity to do it in a timed, but non wheel-to-wheel setting. thanks for digging that up- was a good race! the AWD helped that Audi but i'd rather have the stang anyday! if the audi stn wagon could win, a fbo 335 should be able to win no problem- have to get a forum member on the show!

I did a track day run by one of the drivers Bill Howell, it was a blast and by far the most fun I've had at any HPDE. And yes a lot of these cars are street driven, you can find some of the guys on the pro touring forum.
Pic of one the cars I shared the track with:

thanks for posting that SA - i watched the mustang v gtr segment again and was surprised to find the mustang weighed in at 800lbs less than the gtr and despite that lost by a big margin. i can only speculate that the rear wheel drive vs the awd traction was the big difference hear and a ton of technological advances that make it a track beast!

Don't forget the gearing and traction!
If you saw the specs at the beginning of the race, they listed the Mustang's top speed as 132 mph. The GTR--197 mph. The GTR would eat most things for lunch on the corners of that track--that's what it was designed to do (beat a 911 on the Nurburgring), and it had a power and top speed advantage on the long straight. tl;dr: The GTR is designed to be a cornering track machine.
