S6 test drive
My Audi dealer recently had a executive used white S6 on their lot...so i test drove it....
1.Exterior looks-lookin very nice, i love the toothy grille up front with the chroem bars, and the A6's wheels look very aggressive, teh quad tails were very nice...overall a very nice looking car, i liked the A6's looks but the extra amount of chrome and wheels as well as the quads make it look great. 2.Interior-Typical Audi interior...very nice materials ....feel much better than my e90. Doors have a great thud, good rear space, i can fit my family of 3 so comfortably, the trunk is huge too, teh carbon fiber trim looks very nice and the MMI is superior to the I-drive well at least the 5's I drive when i test drove that last year. Seats feel great but getting out the side butt bolster is kinda hard...hurts my thigh. 3. Acceleration- wow, the brute force of the V10 is amazing i was rocketed out and i had the assurance of quattro with me the whole time, quattro really slingshots you out and about... 4. Braking- The audis weak spot brakes well but i just wasnt satisfied with the feeling, it was really jumpy and sticky plus the brake pedal is a bit high so it felt awkward. 5. handling- car felt good, smooth around the corners, it didnt feel like a large car at all... it was nimble and responsive...the suspension was stiff but very good since it doesnt have runflats heh. 6. Overall usability- i like this car a lot, all the buttons are where they need to be and MMI is very easy to use, the car is comfortable, its a good daily driver 7. conclusion- the car is AWESOME, its such a great car, i liked the A6 but the S6 blows it away, the dealer wanted 80K i proposed 70k not including the bimmer trade, but was turned down. the S6 is a great car who wants to have practicality , usability, and a whole hell lot of fun at the same time...i jsut didnt have the 80K for it hah. |

Sounds like a nice car. Where I live, I've only seem 2 or 3 in the last 2 years or so.
Performance wise, I think the 550 is faster, better brakes and good handling and costs 70k loaded and brand new. Is it just me or some of the Audi's seem overpriced?

Why does Audi need a 5.2L V10 to make a very unimpressive 435HP?
BMW makes 507HP with their 5.0L V10 and gives you the choice of a 6MT if you want as well |

I had the exact same sentiment when I test drove one. I absolutely loved the car. I test drove the E63 AMG only hours before. And while the E's power was amazing, the interior was exactly the same as an E550. To me, if i'm paying for one of these executive supersedans, I want to feel it when i'm not on throttle. Between the seats, and the leather dash of the one I drove, to the fantastic gauges. That has to be one of the most well rounded cars ever.
Actually, a week after I drove it, I visited my parents and took my dad for a test drive. He's had the new A8L since its debut and was looking for something smaller. I got a phone call saying that there'll be a new family addition in November. Needless to say, I'm just giddy for a Thanksgiving reunion.

Globally, the S hasn't been seen as the M's rival for quite some time now. The last gen RS6 was more powerful than the last gen M5, and if the rumors of a 550hp TT V10 RS6 hold true, it'll be the same situation again. On a sidenote, damn there are a lot of audi fanboys lingering around car-talk. Myself included.

audis are great cars people really underestimate them, and at least there A6 is way better looking then bmws 5 series since there suppose to be in the same class, I'd give up my E90 for one of those

How about those A4s/A6s consistently rating as the one of the safest cars in their respective segments.
Cough cough cough.

And I can't believe someone made the "it doesnt have a MT" argument. It took over a year of people complaining about SMG for them to put it in the M5 and M6. And the RS4 isn't even available with one.

They are about the same. I guess the 435hp engine in the Audi doesn't do much with that kind of weight to carry around.

I’ve driven the RS4 & RS6 both nice and fast cars, but they are not on the same level performance wise as the BMW M cars. Not even close
In regards to safety, I’ve had 8 BMW's and I don’t need to read any report to know that BMW makes some of the safest cars in the world. My cars have kept me out of harm’s way over and over again Audi is on the same level as BMW, MB but only in its native Germany where you will see more Audis than pretty much any other luxury car. Here it’s just a glorified VW |

I was making a reference to this:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...5-series+crash I have an E39 530i equipped with M-sport suspenson that I think it is an amazing drivers car. Personally, I dont feel like the E60 even compares as far as feel and directness are concerned. Thus, if i'm going to have a car that's more boat than porsche, I'd much rather have the car with the little details that make it unique than the car that's slightly faster and can handle slightly better. Heck, it's a midsize 4 door sedan, not your E46 M3. Seeing that you drive an E46 M3, I see why you have these opinions. But seriously, IMO, new bmw's don't feel anything like the generations of E46/E39 and before. They're bloated, numb, and heavy. M or no M (in reference to M5 or M6, seeing that I havent driven the E92 M3 yet)

I agree 100% that with each new generation of BMW they are trying to appeal to a broader market and these cars lose some of the edge that they had in the past.
I split my time between the E46 M3 and E60 M5. The M5 is nowhere near as tossable as the M3 but for a car of its size it handles incredibly well. From everything Ive read about the E92 M3 it is not raw and edgy like the E46 M3. Plus theres not enough about it that screams "I AM AN M3" like the E46 M3. I am just very fortunate to have two incredible BMWs. |
