Do I have to pay this ticket?
So I'm at a meter in DC for a couple hours on Friday afternoon.
I come back and see the ticket under the wiper. I knew my meter wasnt up, and then see it wasn't for an expired meter, it was for No Front Tag Display. I have VA tags, can they meter maid ticket me in DC for no front tag? |

Wierd. If you don't need front plates in VA, they shouldn't be able to ticket you for that...

I got one of those tickets 10 years ago in Georgetown. Apparantly they have a list of states which require two plates in order to generate more revenue for themselves. Anyway, DC will tow your car the next chance they get if you don't pay the fine.

I can only think of a state or two that don't require front tags...and VA is not one of them... the law is harsh here... Cabby, yes you gotta pay it. I got a ticket when i was parked for having expired inspection. how much is ur ticket? it should be like 50 bucks? or have they gone up?

Yes, $50, and under Tow Req. it says Yes
Would they have towed me if I hadnt come back for awhile? That's really dumb. I've been parking at meters down there for years and never had this happen. VA requires a front tag, but I dont run one on any of my cars. My wife was stopped once for it, but didnt get a ticket. I sure am glad there are no unsolved crimes in DC or VA so they have time to stop people for stupid shit like this. |

VA laws are one of the toughest around...for anything not just traffic laws...for example.. in CA, sex offenders that meet young girls off the net and try to have sex with them...they get like 1-2 days in jail and some probation... in VA...the same crime gets you 3-5 years and 10 years of probation.. don't ask me how i know, i just watch dateline

i got a ticket parked on the street in arlington when i first moved here for having an expired plate sticker on New Hampshire plates. the annoying thing was i registered my car before i drove down to VA the week prior but still had the new stickers in my glove box. So now I ripped off my state inspection sticker on the windshield so they can't tell anymore, hehe. That and I have 50% tint over the whole windshield too!

I find it downright fucking ridiculous that a "wannabe" state in this case --- or a REAL state for that matter --- can enforce the laws of another state while you are in their state.
To contest the charge, whose courtroom do you showup in? You gonna show up in DC court for a violation of VA law? Makes zero sense to me. |
