Did they change the M-Perf Exhaust tips?

The valve broke on my MP exhaust, so BMW replaced the entire muffler (under warranty of course). I noticed that my tips are a little different now. They used to not have that inside lip and were a more familiar straight pipe tip.

Just wanted to point it out and see if anyone recognized a change to the tips as well..

Not sure for both questions, but mine was one of earlier batches so perhaps my exhaust was just one of the early runs before they had settled on a design? Seems absurd, I know...

Since I didn't experience them back-to-back it's hard to say if the sound changed. Certainly if it did it was not by much. Perhaps the tone is a tiny bit higher pitched and a bit more audible?

It's tough to tell from the pic, but is the inner pipe a smaller diameter than the tip? The lip in question is actually a reducer of sorts?

Does it still say mperformance on the bottom of the muffler? I hope they didn't just use a stock muffler. The inner pipe looks thinner. I'm sure it's fine though lol. Looks good I think.

Yes...

I'll take more shots tonight. Does anyone have the "old" version so we can compare?

I think the car is slightly louder. The burbles are definitely more noticeable now.

I do. The tip is an interference fit on the actual tailpipe. The OD of the inner pipe is more or less the same as the ID of the tip. Plus or minus a few thousandths of course.

I wonder if they monkeyed with the diameter of the NEW tip?

Here are some more photos...

BMW M Perf plaque

The tip is now dirty! Looks like it drops in size quickly and fits over the pipe coming from a muffler...

New valve design... looks like it's all internal now

Not really happy about this kludge... if I get the car on the lift I may rotate it a bit. you can see it if you're walking towards the car from behind...

No. After driving it for a bit I'd say it's a little louder and the burbles are more noticeable.

Are you broken in (1000 miles on exhaust) yet? This is even more appealing now if the new version is even louder than the old version.

Any more info or first hand experience with the updated MPE? Any others who can verify its louder than the old MPE? Does the new design look dirty more quickly? Any other opinions or details?
