BRZ trs Leaked
Not in any ways confirmed, just quoting jalopnik and gt86 forum.
As of now, it seems like no major power upgrades. Should have about ~230 hp with better intake, exhaust and other things. But, the details have not been announced so its all speculation. Interior showing newer seats? Source/more pics: http://clicccar.com/2013/08/04/22714...ト_09-2/

So it will have less power than a 13 year old S2000?
Looks ok.

Hopefully not. Subaru already turbocharged the 2.0 brz motor and put it into the new forester xt producing 250 hp and 258 pound feet of torque. I'm sorry but an intake and exhaust shouldn't equate to an sti.
An sti tuned suspension along with a turbo in the brz would probably make me sell the current e92, which I sold an 06 sti for. |

this car isn't about power. not sure why you guys are so obsessed with HP numbers.
cars like this don't need a lot of power to be 'fun'....if you've ever driven a Miata or a vintage sports car, you will understand this.... |

This car isn't about power but an STi is. To have a ~230hp STi is just ridiculous.

230hp? That's a bit sad. I know the common excuse for this car's lack of power is that it's simply not all about power, but when a sports car can get smoked by the average family sedan on the street, I think that may imply that there isn't 'enough' power in this car. I wonder if they will at least lighten the car up so it can be somewhat competent in a straight line. Remember that a road course is not only made up of turns, but straightaways, too. Having adequate power is as important as having good handling.
I wonder if they will really fit the sti brake system on the production model. Those brakes were made for a 3000+lb car producing 300bhp. Brakes may be too over powering, and even unnecessary for such a weak car. |

why is it ridiculous? this car isn't about racing someone from a stop light.....not at all. it's about the twisties and winding less power out....the philosophy of the BRZ does not need 300hp to succeed.

Okay, let me say it again, I do agree with your statement which makes perfect sense for a BRZ (I'm a huge fan too) BUT we're taking about an STi variant and I don't think you really know what that means (in a historical view).

This might be true, but I'm sure for the expected cost increase for a minimal amount of improvements seems to put it out of its realm if it is to go head to head with competing models. If I'm not mistaken previous model STI's (granted its WRX) was a strong contender with Evo's. I don't see a BRZ STI contending with a new Evo (assuming it will be the same price range?). But then again, I could be completely incorrect.

Please tell me what STi is about then? and what part is it not for the power, to control the power, and to stop the power? But where is the power? Have you seen an STi (EVER) that didn't have power? That's kinda like saying the BMW M performance packages is the M.

I'm still baffled as to why Subaru is being so modest with this car. If they were to go all out like we hoped it would, then the BRZ STi would destroy most of the sports cars on the road.
Or is it that they don't want it to compete with their own Impreza STi? |

In fact, the only real competition the BRZ naturally has is the Miata at this time. |

As for "STI", it is about Subaru performance parts...and i'm sure the BRZ STI will have upgraded suspension, brakes, etc....all the things that really matter for using this car as it was intended; on a track and in the twisties. That's what this car is all about....not about 1/4 mile times and red light romps against car X and car Y. Besides 30hp in a light car is a whole lot different than 30hp in a heavier car. |

Test drove a FR-S a few weeks ago. Very nice, but sorely needs more power. The problem was going 50-60 on a highway and trying to pass. Just doesn't have enough torque to pass fast enough for my tastes.

It's laughable how people write off the need for power and claim it's "not what the car is about."
When it comes down to it, power is still the most significant factor in what makes a car fast on even a very tight track (Tsukuba, for example). The BRZ/FRS is painfully slow, regardless of the outright power figure. This wasn't the case with various other sports cars in the same HP range...the Integra Type R, RSX Type-S, S2000, etc. They were at least quick enough to get out of their own way. But the anemic BRZ/FRS will get mopped up on any track by a base-model, V6 boat of a Camaro or Mustang. Oh, so it's a car which can only be fun when you're illegally driving twice the posted speed limit on a mountain or canyon road, maybe one day a month if that? Cool story. I'm sure everyone tries to justify their purchase by reminding themselves about those roads as they're commuting to work every day and aren't able to out-merge grandma in her Buick. |

nobody spends $25k on a NEW car to get the fastest track car in the world. People spend $25k to get a fun to drive small car with great handling......that's all that really matters. What i'm seeing here is an expectation that the BRZ would cost $25k and you'd get 300hp. Way to stay realistic... |
