Big MPPK install problems; what to do?

First post here on this website, but a regular reader. Any advice on my situation would be appreciated.

I ordered the F30 MPPK several months ago, and 3 weeks ago got word from BMW El Cajon that the part had come in. Dropped my car off the next day.

My car has been at the dealership since. They installed the new DME, and the car would not start. Did an IRAP session, car would not start. Took the new DME out and put the old one in, car would not start. Ordered another part BMW said was necessary, and did a second IRAP session, car still would not start. New MPPK has been ordered but is not coming until early October. At this point, the vehicle has been at the shop for almost 3 weeks; my SA says they are waiting for a "factory rep to come out and try to force program the car."

The dealer has offered to reimburse me for one month's car payment. I called BMW NA Friday and inquired about a buyback/trade, but have not heard anything back yet. I love the vehicle, but have big concerns about what all this is going to mean going forward, in terms of reliability etc. Obviously this has been a huge disappointment. Any thoughts/advice?

I'm not sure why BMWNA would offer a buyback or trade. They have nothing to do with it. This is all on the dealer. It sounds like the dealer might have done something they shouldn't have during the install...

I just talked to the El Cajon BMW guys at SoCalEuro about a MPPK install. They suggested I wait till end of the year. I wish i had some advice to give you...Others on the forum have been through this. Maybe some ideas in this thread?

The dealer is saying the problem has to do with a defective MPPK DME, and programming done through IRAP sessions that isn't working - all of those things are on BMW.

Lemon law in ca is 30 continuous days or 3x with the same issue unresolved. This is a dealer service issue rather than a manufacturing one if I'm not mistaken....

Make sure all of this is documented in the work orders

Also read the warranty about the M performance parts to be sure. I believe there is a difference if you put it on after the car has been delivered (2yrs?) vs. if it is put in at the factory (new car 4yr warranty applies?)

Would be good to get some documentation from BMW NA that your are covered for the full new car warranty period

I would assume the warranty on the parts would only be an issue if they successfully installed the MPPK. I will (most likely) be getting the car back with no MPPK, just the original DME.

Bummer. more power is always a good thing.

BTW, can you remove and sell PPK like a Cobb or other aftermarket chip or is it "locked" to the car ?

It's a software flash, intake and engine cover (a new DME is needed if your vehicle is old enough), so selling would be difficult!

For the N54, COBB software flashes and intakes are easily re-sellable.. Guess this is like a "vin locked" tune then.

Too bad, wonder if it will be like other aftermarket parts that add $0 to resale or if the fact they are OEM contribute slightly

As a followup, my dealership tried installing 3 new DMEs, as well as other repairs as suggested by the factory representative. The car is officially being "lemoned" now - they are buying it back from me. A full month after dropping it off for what was supposed to be a simple install, the car still will not start or run. Pathetic.

Buyer beware! The MPPK with DME may ruin your car.
