I just checked out the 328i sport and noticed it has paddle shifters. did the 07' sport have this option? and also noticed the LED license plate lights.

The 07 328 had the auto made in France while the 07 335 with paddles came from Germany. Where is the 08 328 sport tranny made?
Does anyone know who made the 07 328 auto and how much is different from the ZF unit in the 335 sport package?

Older (late 90's) BMW transmissions were supplied by GM I believe. I recently read that the new ones we also supplied by them. I read it in a recent magazine. Don't remember but I think it was autoweek. Anyone else know anything about this?

The 328 GM transmission is a POS compared to the ZF unit in the 335, but at least it has 6 gears, which is better than the majority of automatics. (Doesn't Porsche's auto only have 5?)

BMW has used Hydra-Matics for years, and AFAIK without interruption. My '01 E39 had one. They're fine transmissions -- one of the few good things GM builds. None of the controls -- paddles, shift levers, software, etc. -- are part of the transmission, whether they come from GM, Getrag or ZF.

Only the Boxster(non-S) & Cayman(non-S) come with 5 speed Tiptronic transmissions as options. All the other's (911/Cayenne/Boxster S'/Cayman S') come with 6 speeds.

As said above, because it makes the Turbo a good bit faster by keeping the boost up. (Plus you can "pre-boost" by brake torquing) There's a video out there somewhere of a Turbo racing a Jeep SRT-8 and he brake torques the launch and slides forward about 3 feet with the front wheels locked (It's raining). Probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

All 911s have a 5 speed. Porsche doesn't make a 6 speed auto except on the Cayenne.
