2014 Corvette or slightly used 2008 CLK 63 AMG Black Series?
Hello all, I have a potentially stupid question, if you were to choose between a new 2014 Corvette and a slightly used 2008 CLK 63 AMG Black Series, which would you go with and why? All opinions and thoughts are welcome.

The Vette. It will be an incremental step up in speed and handling compared to your M3. The Benz will only be faster. Also reliability and warranty concerns with the Benz vs a new Corvette. And let's not even talk about the availability and cost of mods.

Black Series will be worth much more in a few years so it really depends what you want to get out of it. Just to drive for fun would be the Vette, but the CLK63BS is, and will continue to be, a collector car.

A Black Series will also turn more heads, if you're into that kind of thing.

I'd the MB for sure. Personally, I'd have a hard time paying that kind of money for ANYTHING that was assembled by General Motors. I think their build quality and quality of interior materials is seriously lacking, even the new stuff. That's just my $.02, good luck with whatever car you choose.

It would appear that the MBBS for 2008 was a pretty special car with only 350 coming to the states. From what I've seen, they're still pretty expensive, but comparable to the price of a loaded C7 Stingray.
That being said: The reviews I've read have the MBBS a bit harsh for everyday use (super stiff suspension). It does have 500hp, but it also weighs a hefty 3,900lbs! The Stingray with the magnetic ride will run rings around the MB on the track and be comfortable on the street. The Stingray is also a much newer design and will more than likely be a better all-around car. It'll also be MUCH cheaper for service. My vote: Stingray for sure.

Guess it depends on how much money you have . For me, one is more status, with additional risk as it is or will be outside of warranty soon (MB) and the cost to fix broken stuff on a car like that would be considerable.
On the other hand the Corvette seems like the performance bargain, will have a warranty, and even outside that shouldn't be too expensive to replace/fix. Interior on it looks considerable better than past generations, and the fact that it can put down 30mpg makes it more tolerable as a daily driver. I imagine the black gets what, 18mpg highway. Money for fuel aside, you're filling up almost half as often depending on the type of trip. Personally I'd be all over that Corvette (even as a 28-year-old). |

For me, the CLK 63 BS is one of the best looking among relatively current cars. Heck, I haven't found a car below 100k that will top its looks! (Possibly the F-type but I'm not sure.) It signifies AMG going serious and nuts. I have never truly heard one in real life (it was creeping at 5mph in a parking lot) but if it's anything like a C63, then it should sound sexy! That car's interior is gorgeous except for its dumb steering wheel.
The 2014 Stingray is seems like it's also a very nice car. From the pictures I've seen, I doubt it will steal the CLK 63 BS from my heart. As hardcore as the CLK is, it is still a complete car which makes it all the more amazing. With that said, I'll take the CLK BS any day, any where. |
