Purchase Case from BMWUSA into CANADA?
Hi folks,
It's been a long time since I've posted! As many of you know I moved back to Canada from the US. I brought my car with me...well my lease will be over in a few short months...BMWNA said that they would sell the car to me..the buyout is $35K plus GST, PST and a 6.1% import fee which would bring the car up to $39K US (minus my deposit) or $37,900 CAD I've been thinking about it b/c of the exchange now... Buying it would mean that we would keep the car for a looooog time b/c this car would be for the wife..in doing so I wouldnt be able to buy a 335 coupe for a while...there is the argument that it's not worth it to put that much into a car but rather it is better to lease being that you will not have any repair issues whereas the 330 will run out of warrenty in 2010...so I could lease another 3 series here - of course it wouldnt be as loaded as my current one... If I dont buy it I can buy the wife a older 3 series (E46) or 5 series (e39) and pay it off quickly and then get my 335 coupe...but then we could have repair issues with a older BMW... I just hate to waste that already spent money b/c we do love the 3 series..you all know what I mean... Anyway thx for reading and replying even though I've been out of touch so long! PS When and if I buy a 335 coupe I will buy it used from the US, especially if the exchange stays where it is... M.

I think you might be off a couple thousand... bringing the car up to 41k. Anyway, its still cheaper than buying a used 330 here. A ZHP 2004 330i goes for around 34k with low kilo plus taxes.
So I say buy the car out! And if you don't like it sell it to me...!

If there are no known issues with your current car, I would buy it.
You will never know you are getting into a lemon if you buy another used E46 or a new E9x.

Ok - maybe I am missing something here, but why would you pay 41K for an E90 buyout where a well equiped 2008 328i is like 42k, you'd be better off buying a new US model and importing it to Canada (you just have to pay for it - you can't lease it), otherwise you have to pay the premium on the price for a Canadian model if you want to lease.
In any case I wouldn't shell out 41k for a 2 year old car that isn't worth much more than that new. |

Buy the 330i. Lease rates in Canada are higher than in the US (at least on their website- 6%). When you imported the 330 did you have to pay duty or have the car modified to meet CAD specs?

Move back - that's what I did - makes things easier and cheaper!
The only good option is if you can figure out a financing source that will give you the money to buy a US car - maybe a bank would do it or basically beg borrow from anyone you know - once you have the car and have it on Canadian Soil, then you can refinance it with any bank, but it is probably hard to get the money with the car out of the country. Good luck! |

Interesting, not sure how fair that is, but I know that in Calgary the service centers are swamped...Lots of $$$ in town and plenty of business both present and future
