BMW 135i
Hello,
I was wondering if I should get a BMW 135i. I am one person that is looking for a balanced car; a smooth and comfortable ride for daily driving yet a responsive engine and lots of torque for about $35,000. I am thinking about getting a 135i with the M-Sport package, in Black Sapphire Metallic / Black Leathette Interior, and maybe even modifying it (LSD + PROcede chip). What would be the Pros and Cons, also, would I be better off with an E46 M3 or E90 328i? Thanks, Pimp Star |

I think you should get the 135i. It looks nice w/ the ///M package, and will surely have equal mod potential when compared to the 335i. |

I will need to test drive it, though. It should corner better because it's a hair lighter and quiet a bit shorter. P.S. Would you guys considering modifying the Engine / Intake / Exhaust / ECU / Body / Suspension / Tires / Brakes on a 135i to improve performance? Pimp Star |

There are lots of discussion going on about the 135́ on BMW Italian forums (even on "1 addicts" sort of forum".
3 comment out of 4 are regarding the uglyness of the 135́. For sure it seems to be the ugliest BMW released in many, many years. The car only weights 40 kg less than a 335́, the same electronic differential lock it has is mounted on 335́s produced after march 2007 and the back seat space of the 135́ is limited compared to the 335́ one. If you have budget constraints, my advice is to go for a second-hand 335́, you will probably spend the same and have a much better looking car, with practically the same performances.

And the 135 is 200 lbs. lighter than the 335i. That's pretty substantial. Here is one of the threads. |

No, as confirmed by several recent Euro car magazines, the difference in weight between the 135́ and the 335́ is less than 100 lbs (40 kgs), even if that may refer to euro specs cars.

The reason why its only 40kg less is because the vehicle needed to be reinforced in order to handle the power/aerodynamics. Therefore it weighs more than a car looking like that should. Trust me, I've seen all the articles trying to see if I'm wrong about the car. So far I've seen that it'll start in the high $30's, the weight is insignificant, and until I saw the Tii it's the ugliest car BMW's come out with in a while. Better than the hatchback version, but thats not saying a lot.

I also predict the 1 series will spawn a lot of club racer events and community. I like that. It leads to a lot of good events, mods, and freely available info.

I do not think it is ugy, but have no intention of replacing my 335 with a 135. I want a stripped 135 as a second car to keep at my second home on Whidbey island and to drive at track events.

Yeah sick like i'm going to puke with those gaudy gold wheels. Definitely clashes to much with the chrome around the windows.

No. It will have an EDL (electronic differential lock) i.e. the same system that is mounted on post march 2007 production 335́s.
It works as follows: when controls are all off, it uses the abs to brake the inner spinning wheel, transferring torque to the non spinning one. Apparently the effect is very similar to the one of an LSD, maybe a little bit slower than a real mechanical LSD, but also giving raise to much-easier-to-control reactions.

he is saying the Tii is uglier than the regular 135, a statement which I concur.
But I guess with a lot of BMWs, they have to grow on you. I've grown to tolerate the looks of the 6, 7 and the Z4. I thought they were butt ugly when they first came out, but now I don't mind their look. Quote:

BMW MUST be careful with pricing. Unless BMW bumps the E90/92 base to over $41k, the 135i had better not base above $35k. Don't worry about LSD, cause it's overrated unless it's going to be a dedicated track car. Same goes for all the other Bull Squeeze (Procede, Exedeetc etc). If you're a half @ssed decent driver, you won't need and LSD or Procede. |
