disappointed in leatherette

I had a chance to compare leather and leatherette before I ordered my car and I ordered leather for a reason. I tried leatherette and my first impression was "wow, this feels rubbery and cheap". It felt much cheaper than the perforated leather in my accord coupe. It may have felt that way due to the texture of the material, I dont know. Leather was much nicer than the leatherette but still not as nice as I expected it to be. The leather was harder than I have anticipated. My Parents Lexus ES330 has very soft leather, it feels more classy to me. I've also heard the 7 series has very soft and supple leather compared to the 3 series.

yeah and the very soft leather in the lexus will crack and look like shit in a couple years trust me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am not a fan of the dakota styling but it will preserve the leather....and keep the car looking great for a long time....i wish we had the option that is in the 6 series for the upgraded leather...it's 2400 but damn is the leather amazing!!!! new feature for 08's i guess

If you got leather, then, why does your post talk about leatherette? After all, you got leather.

+1. This is just going to be a 10 page post of wasted bandwidth. The leather vs 'ette battle and debate will never end.

I imagine he wanted to piss off the leatherette owners?

This has been discussed ad nauseum tho and there are tons of threads on it already.

Durability my friend.

If you want soft, supple leather, count on it wearing poorly and cracking in a few years. The dakota will age better, and since BMW has a large number of leased vehicles, that's very important to them.

The leather/leatherette look very, very similar. Aside from the smell of leather, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart at first glance. Furthermore, how well it wears is of major concern (..as previously mentioned).

Agree. The leatherette in my A4 was much nicer imo.

I actually like the feel and tightness of the Dakota a lot

Some makers use very soft leather to make the seats supple but they will just crack and crease up a lot quicker than BMW's leather.
