Auto vs Manual 335I

Both are coupes one is manual and the other is auto.
Did a couple of runs.
The auto pulls on the manual when going downhill.
When going uphill the manual seems to pull on the auto.
After about 6 runs that was the results.
Will try and film it next time.

We checked out the highways and too many cars, so we had no choice to do it on a road that was clear but it was either uphill or downhill.

Hah ... Wouldn't you think that the car that pulled going up hill would also pull harder when going down hill?

If you have 2 of the same cars one has to lose.. Most likely the results are caused by one person hitting the gas WOT 1/2 a second faster than the other.

I wanna know which one is faster on a roll at 65mph.... I want to get the auto, but if it's slower from a roll, I'll get the manual and save some $$$. The auto usually can't be beat from a dig. Not sure about what would happen if you have two stock cars (one being manual and the other auto) hitting it at 65mph. Which car would pull give they were in an appropriate gear.

If one was to pull on the other it would be such a small amount (1/2 car maybe) that basing your decision on that is just retarded IMO. Buy whatever you enjoy driving more. No matter how fast an auto can shift it will always offer a completely different driving experience than a manual. The way that I look at it is that I drive my car normal much more often then I do WOT where i'm racing against another car so I went with what brings me more enjoyment when i'm driving, what was faster never even crossed my mind.

That wasn't the point, but if that makes you feel good about your purchase then more power to you.

I have not ordered yet

I just find this to be a silly topic, so I posted a nonsensical reply.

Thanks for taking an interest though

Oh, ok. I just figured that you had an E9x since i've seen you post on here for a while. I agree with you that the auto vs. manual debate is a big waste of time, but I just hate when people try to justify that one is better then the other because it is faster.

Why not? They are both the same car, so why not compare it the way i want to compare it. I've been driving stick for years. I now want an auto. If the auto in anyway is slower than the manual, would that affect my decision? It may. This is not my only car. The 335 is not really a fast car, but is quick. Driving this car is like driving any other 3 series (e90, e92). But what I like about it is that it does everything so well. It might not be the fastest in the straight line nor does it have globs of top end power (small turbos) or handle as well as my e30 m3, but it does everything so well.

You might hate it when people are trying to get answers to their questions (perhaps because it's not the same reason why you would chose your car), but what's it to you? You might make them realize it's stupid (and it might very will be), but dude, people don't necessarily have the same reason for buying a 335i like you or I.

I want navigation and comfort access. If the car doesn't have it, I won't buy it. Is that a stupid decision to not buy a car? It may very well be, but if I am spending $50k on a car, I will get the car I want.

You're right Gary. We should start at least another 50 threads on this topic because this is very important, and now you have opened my eyes. My point was simply to purchase what you enjoy driving more because in the 335, unlike many other platforms, the auto is very good and the difference between both transmissions performance wise is so small that it would be very foolish to base your decision purely on 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. That was my only point. I never said anything about this being a fast car or that it handles well or not compared to 3'er from 20 years ago that were half the size and weight. The bottom line was to drive what you enjoy, not what is a tenth of a second faster or slower in some magazine time that you can't duplicate in the first place.
