SES Light On - but only when cold outside??
My Service Engine Soon light has been on consistently lately given the frigid temperatures.....but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? The light comes on and stays on, but only when it drops below about 30 degrees or so. Any ideas???
Thanks....

Had this issue briefly, head to your local auto zone and see what the code is they pull. Then google the code. It may be VANOS, that is what mine was in the cold but i cleaned them (check forum for VANOS DIY, very easy). No problems after that. How old is your oil? That could impact that as well.

I had the same issue last week. The light came on when it was cold. Went to auto zone and pulled a p1553 code. It was my vanos solenoids. But I cleaned them and the code didn't go away so I ordered new ones and everything is good now!

Yea, I was thinking it was VANOS related, but I just had them cleaned a year ago. Oil was changed 2 weeks ago as well. Could I be looking at a larger, more costly VANOS issue?

Not only could any regular garage handle it, but there is absolutely no reason you should be able to handle it, it's an extremely simple swap. Do a search for a DIY, you may also want to try just pulling them out and cleaning them before you go dropping money on new ones.

I timed myself on the time it took me to put new ones in. I had dinner reservations to get to and got it done in ten minutes. Old ones taken out, excess oil cleaned up, and new ones in. Don't pay a shop. If youre mechanically inclined take a 30 minutes and take your time and get it done! It took me more time to take the air duct that connects to the air box out then it did to do the solenoids. PM me if you want me to give you step by step!
