Trying to get service records!!

I am in need of service records help please

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 2007 335i convertible with 64k miles. How can I get the service history for this car? I called several BMW dealerships in my area and they did not want to release the information to me.

I am becoming very frustrated. This should not be this difficult but apparently it is becoming a situation.

If anyone has access to service records, it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Lancaster, PA.

Thanks so much.

Go to the dealer with your paperwork showing you as the new owner, they will give the information you need.

Best I was able to do over the phone was get them to say what had been done and I had to write it down.

Amen. It only really reports damage and change of ownership. Very very few shops report work to them.

Just go to a dealer and talk to a SA, they will put your key in the reader and that will tell them the service history on the car (aren't our smart keys cool!). I did this when I bought my 335 from a non bmw dealer, I was happy to see up until sale, Calgary BMW gallery was servicing it.

Due to privacy concerns, most won't release to you copies of the service records, but will gladly tell you what has been done and when.

In my case, I went through the dealership where it was bought and serviced since new, and they let me know when brakes had been done, the service work, warranty stuff done, and dates etc. It was all I really needed, since it let me know when all the filters had been changed etc.

I did try carfax and others, they did not give the info I was looking for. I just want to see all the service records since new. I know where all the service has been done. It is BMW Rusnak in California. I live in PA and went to Faulkner BMW. The service manager is giving me a hard time and stands behind the privacy law, blah blah blah. I tried calling Rusnak with no help, the flat out told me no.

I called Faulkner and told me some things that were done with service over the phone but did not go any further.

I guess I will just have to call back and write all the details down over the phone, all the recalls, service, etc.

I was hoping someone had access to the BMW database. I have seen posts in forums that have offered service record look ups.

I already told the service manager that I am the new owner and I even called BMW corp and updated the info, that is no help. I am not the original owner.

This must vary -- car to car -- because I got pretty good service records (for the 2008 E90 that I bought recently) on CarFax.

Went to the dealer to check as well and nothing different was indicated for my car. Guess it just depends on how well the dealership documents the service done and whether or not it uses or relies on CarFax for backup or not.

I got the servicing dealer to fax me every page of the service history. They just crossed off the previous owner's name and address. So yeah- keep pestering the dealer.

I was at the dealership last Thursday for a oil change and I asked for my service history. They got the service manager to print it out for me.

I got the same "privacy" run around over the phone.

Walked in-person one morning and got the service manager. He took my key and told me everything that had been done, recommended next service steps, and was overall a good guy.

I think its their policy to not to give you complete work history.
However, it depends on your SA, he may give it your if you ask nicely.
I got my car's all service records.
If you cannot get it easily, then make good friends with some SA and then he can help you out.

It is BMW's policy to not release the service records / history of the vehicle. If a dealership follows the rules set forth by BMW they will not print out that information to anyone.

Where in PA are you located and where do you take your vehicle for service? From experience; Apple, Sun Motors, and Faulkner will not provide that information.

I take mine to Sun Motors in Mechanicsburg. I have always had great experiences there - professional, decent pricing, and their techs always fix the issue at hand.

If you are looking for an Indy Shop check out Jacks Auto & Aero in Brainbridge. http://jacksautoandaero.com/
