Yes it will. Then, around May or June next year, it will suddenly drop again.
You're using A/C less frequently.

I have 2200 miles on my 335i coupe 6MT. I started off getting 18mpg, and now i,m up to just under 20 mpg,(19.6 to be exact). As the miles get up there i know the mpg will also increase some more. This has happened with every new car i have ever owned.BTW this is local mpg. I havnt taken it on a highway cruise yet long enough to check the highway mpg.

I noticed it got much better over time.
That being said, Im back down to 17mpg average because my commute is shorter(7.5 miles) and its all traffic.

I hit the gas and bring it up to 100+ every now and then. Other than that I drive normally.

That sucks.. I drive 90+ on the freeway every day and floor it at just about every light and still manage 19mpg average. I used to get 23 mpg on the same route in the E46 M3, but then again 35 miles out of my 40 mile commute are freeway and it says I get 30mpg at 90 mph.

My car is just under 2k miles now. When I first got it, my friends and I constantly punched the gas which resulted in 15.5mpg. Now that I know how fast my car is, ive been doing spirited driving and increased my mpg to 17.8. Now Im just hoping that itll increase even more because Im getting jealous reading all these posts about people getting 22-24mpg.

You must be going through a lot of stop and go or something. I notice you have a 6MT, that could influence your mpg a lot. I have a Step, but I control it manually about 90% of the time, and I average 19.6mpg. I did some individual tests, and I average about 27mpg cruising at 75 on the highway, and 17 through strictly stop and go. I hit the gas every now and then, but I short shift at about 5k. My car currently has about 1300 miles, so I think that it has to be your shifting style. Maybe you're holding gears too long. Maybe you're not in a high enough gear at most times.

Re: What gas I use, doesn't matter as long as it's at least 91.

I use 91 octane (the highest you can get in Utah) and I get 23-24 mpg. Once I got 21 mpg because I drove in DS a lot.

I don't think so. My car got 29-30 when it had 700 miles, and it gets 29-30 on the highway at 4300 mi. as well. Any variation is probably attributable to driving habits and conditions, not the mileage on the vehicle.
If you're driving purely stop and go, I could see 16-17. The 29-30 is purely highway, 70-75 mph. |

When I first got the car, I didn't realize it needed 91 or higher and was using regular.
As soon as I started using premium, mileage went up about 2 mpg I get 22.8 with a 325 xi -- with lots of highway driving.

That's not attributable to the octane, it would be scientifically (for all intents and purposes) not feasable. I wish the more octane = higher mpg posts would cease!

Sorry to annoy you, but I haven't seen those threads.
If you can point me to a thread that says I can stop spending money on premium gas, I'd very much appreciate it.
