Pumping Gas

Hey guys, was wondering if this happens to anyone else or if something is up with my car. While I am pumping gas, the nozzle clicks as if the gas tank is full. Then I try to pump more gas and it acts as if it's already topped off when it's not. Does this happen to anyone else or is there something up? Thanks

Happened to me a few weeks ago but not since. Think it was the pump, because I've been back to the same station (Shell) and used other pumps and it seems ok.

Clogged tank vent not letting air get displaced out of the tank, leading to petrol coming up the input and tripping the pump sensor? If you pump a bit, let it sit a few seconds, then pump again, does it work?

Same thing happens to me. It's probably the pump. I usually have the issue at chevrons.

Yeah I have this problem at Chevron as well.
It happens probably every other time I go fill up.

Just curious if it was just me or the car.

Going to try to let it sit a few seconds, then pump again next time I fill up.

+1!
Happens to me every time I'm at Chevron. I experimented a bit by switching to 76 for 3 weeks and no issues thus far!

I think its the pump handles at chevron.

Interesting. I like Chevron, but I think I am going to try out Shell for a few weeks see if it is the pumps.

I think the pumps need a recall.

this happened to my 07 way back in the day... the trick was to only hold the trigger down halfway after it clicks

Your sticking it in to far. Push back the nozzle an inch back next time, and it should work just fine. That is what I did, and it hasn't clicked since then.

Yeah don't scare yourself, it really is about this sometimes. Some pumps just want to be a pain in the ass I guess. It's happened to me a bunch of times when I had my S4, experienced it a couple times with the 3 series, even happened with my moms 2013 Passat as well..

Agreed, this happens to me sometimes and I lift the handle a bit so that the spout stops touching either the top or bottom of the filler neck.

It happens to me every other time, but I normally fill up at the same stations. Really annoying.

This happens to me quite often too. It's the sensitivity of the pump nozzle. I usually end up turning the nozzle upside down and smacking it where the safety valve is. Then it works fine.

Pull it out a bit and it should be fine. Happened to me before. Some pump works better than the others.

Happens to me all the time. When I put my nozzle in too dip, it comes too quickly

I've had it happen a few times over the years, but it's not been a long-term issue. As others have said, I think it's probably the pump.

Happens to me when I shove the pump a bit too "deep" (not sure how to describe it). If I let it hang a little loose, it'll pump gas until it's properly filled.

That's what she said.....

Anyway, I've had the issue at various stations.
Change the angle of the nozzle.

Haven't had it happen at 76 though.
