Yes. Dealers are all tied into a core BMW (maybe just BMW NA?) system, which is how any BMW dealer can see the history of any service performed at any other BMW dealer.

I doubt it.

I believe they do it by VIN number.

Actually when I called BMW of Austin and said I needed to schedule an oil change, we picked a time and I hung up. Only then did I realize I'd stupidly forgotten to give them my name, VIN, email, or anything. But I then got an email with my appointment details, including my car. Same thing happened with MINI of Austin scheduling my wife's car.

So yes, at least some dealers appear to do be able to pull up your records just by Caller ID. I don't know if that works across dealers, though, i.e. if I called BMW of Dallas or wherever, I doubt they'd be able to do that just because I've been to BMW of Austin in the past.

Are BMW dealers connected? Are we connected? Is nothing connected or is everything connected? These are the questions one must always ponder. What is this thing we call life? Sometimes I think the classical thinkers were hacks. Sometimes I don't know what to think. But I always think.

I had, I was just surprised -- and impressed.

I was going to say the same thing. It's usually the guys that got caught with a tune in the stealership that freak out and ask this question.
