Wheel size again?
Firstly, apologies for yet another wheel/tyre question but I've spent months lurking on the forum and still don't have a clear answer in my mind.
I have a pre-LCI E91 325i, which I love. Unfortunately it came with style-158 17" wheels and RFTs, both of which I hate. So both are going. Wheel-wise, my plan is Tomasen TN1s (unless I can find OEM ones on Ebay) with summer tyres, and keep the old 17" rims for winter tyres. My question is one of size. I was planning to go for 19"; however, the recent spate of potholes around our way got me thinking. I don't push the car much, and ride is important; I certainly don't want to make it any worse. So ... is 19" with non-RFTs a sensible way to go, or would I be safer with 18"? All advice / experience / opinions welcome. |

If ride is important no bigger than 18" in my opinion. I've been looking through ebay a lot for OEM wheels and have seen a lot of cracked 19" wheels which have been the victims of pot holes.

Yes, I think I'm slowly arriving at that conclusion. Thanks for the reply.
Does the cracked rim issue just affect BMW wheels, or is there a general problem with heavy cars / low profile tyres / bad roads? Also, are there any advantages to 19" over 18" other than looks? |
