Next Generation Boxter/Cayman 4cyl-395HP
Don't know if anyone saw this yet. That's a lot of power for a light car.

I don't think anyone said the 4C was overpriced, it just has a transmission that's had poor feedback and a non existent dealer network in the US. It also has what I find disappointing performance, slower than a Cayman S and a SEAT around the Ring, even with a whole roll of gaffer tape on the poor thing. Nothing they won't fix with a quadrifoglio verde version before long, I'm sure, yet we'll still likely be kept from it in the US.
I know I'm in the minority, but I'd prefer a 4 in the M2. I'm not sure where this motor fits into the Porsche line up, with the current 2.7 base, 3.4 S and now 3.4 GTS. I'd have personally preferred them to use a four cylinder turbo to replace the base model, making 300 hp, but in a lighter car than the current S or GTS. But then I'm not on the board of Porsche, they probably have a plan. |

So this Turbo 4 trim would be seated above the S I'm guessing? While I understand it's more powerful and lighter, it just seems weird.
...that is unless this replaces the 6 cylinder engines altogether. |

Very good point. And while 395 hp sounds great I highly doubt the regular cayman or cayman s will have that much. Perhaps that is saved for a GTS or R model. No way a regular cayman will boast more or similar power figures as the 911.
Unless the 991.2 gets power boosts. But we all know how Porsche adds power in small increments. 15-20hp max. I can't see a cayman jumping from 325 to 395.

Well, in fact the plan is Turbocharged Flat4 for Cayman/Boxster, new Turbocharged Flat6 for 911 (entry model might get Flat4 too) and Turbocharged Flat8 for 959 (if it enters production). No more NA engines for Porsche either, just as for Ferrari.
The last new NA engines are the Porsche Flat6, Lexus V8, Audi V10 and Ferrari/Lamborghini V12. I still hope the Cayman GT4 will come next year. |

Four cylinder Porsches. Hmmm ... 356, 550, 912, 914, 924, 944, 968 ...
While the 356 was a legendary Porsche, and the 550 a unique model, none of the others were necessarily outstanding as Porsches go. As such, I believe the Boxster and Cayman will be looked at in a similar light. So, a four cylinder engine will not necessarily destroy their pedigree.
