AC Schnitzer Tune??
Super BMW Noob...actually car Noob here,
So I have been extremely excited since ordering my 2014 335ix that I have been snooping all sorts of BMW forums; especially this one...so here I go... I asked my dealer about this tuning and if it would void warranty and so on and so forth; they actually said they can sell me AC Schnitzer tunes and I can keep my warranty. This was great news, not only for the warranty, but because I live in Germany and have no idea who would tune an American Spec BMW and if it would still be legal to drive here (they have some serious car regulations). Here is the technical data of the tune, but it is from the company (http://preisliste.ac-schnitzer.de/ac...340&ID_NR=9705) Is this company legit, recommended by you guys, worth my time, or do you guys have a better recommendation for me? Thanks a bunch! |

Legit? They are more legit than any other brand of tunes people on this forum put on their cars. They are synonym with BMW. What I know is that in the U.S you only have Dinan that has become to BMW what Schnitzer is and has been for decades (Schnitzer, Hartge and Alpina).

If no MPPK shows up in 2 years, I'm going that route. 1 year warranty thats more trustworthy than cheaper tune warranties. At least I believe it is because of the premium.

I'm also looking at AC Schnitzer vs. MPPK for the N55. AC Schnitzer has a very high Reputation here in Europe and so for me they are probably the only serious tuning variant besides the MPPK.
So I've been reading the AC Schnitzer install guide over easter days and just don't like the idea of an external Tuning. Just too much cabling, too many additional connectors and a not very nice looking AC Schnitzer Box. I just don't like that. Didn't make up my mind yet. MPPK is, quite expensive for the figures you get. AC Schnitzer get's you more power for the price, but I know every time I open the Hood, I'm not gonna like what I see. |

The MPPK in the US is available from getbmwparts.com for around $900, and with another $100 for installation, $1000 covers it. $1600 is excessive.

Here is the link to the Install Guide of the whole Tuning kit (german/english). English starting at page 15. First of all it makes clear that it's Kind of a massiv install you need to do. On page 25 you see a suggestet mounting Position for the ACS control unit (box). I don't like that at all. http://preisliste.ac-schnitzer.de/ac...1100230340.pdf Last edited by oceanview; 04-23-2014 at 11:54 PM.. |

Go to this URL and scroll down:
http://www.getbmwparts.com/partlocat...10&startrow=26 Apparently, the MPPK for builds after March of 2013 are $400 more expensive, although it doesn't list what the additional cost is for. For my car it was $950, for the 2014 models, it is $1350.

So here is what I gathered thus far.
AC ~ 20% gains from tune $3300 Ugly under the hood 1 year warranty (makes me speculate long term issues by running the car this hard) May actually void warranty in U.S. since Dinan is the U.S. BMW counterpart not AC Schnitzer resale may have same problems if not more than any other aftermarket tune MPPK ~ 10% gains from tune $1400 No change in warranty Looks pretty increase resale, and if not it wasnt that expensive anyhow Some people have called this tune "subtle" I am currently leaning towards AC Schnitzer which just means I need to sneak some money out of the account (wife will lose her mind if I spend that on software to increase performance). So I guess I will be the first to post some video's of before and after... |

Info:
AC Schnitzer has less sensors than the tunes from Hartge. I have investigated ACS, Manhart Racing and Hartge + MPPK. Bought MPPK. It doesn't deliver all BMW claims. Bought Hartge as well. Installation can be completeted in 2 hours if you spend half the time on the cosmetics, (wiring etc.) If you scrutinize the kits some, you'll notice Hartge is the better. It has better supervision thus it's more safe for the engine and your bank account. It's comes with warranty as well. /krelle |

Hartge makes 360-370 hp, and if you go to Hartge for the install you'll get adjusted to your car which might be worth the extra. The Hartge has a function which makes you able to go to standard BMW setting in 1 minute. As mentioned in an other thread. Hartge's supervision seems superior to ACS. ACS is NOT compatible with MPPK. Hartge is. In less than 14 days I'll recieve my new Akra exhaust and when it's on I'll go dyno again. I'll let you know the outcome Hartge wise. /Krelle |

HERBERT HARTGE GmbH & Co. KG
An der B 51 66701 Beckingen - Germany Phone: +49 6835-506-11 E-mail: Verkauf2@hartge.de I bought the MPPK first but wasn't satisfied. Checked Both Manhart, ACS and Hartge. Went for Hartge :-) which is nice. I'll go for more when someone brakes the ECU. /Krelle |
