Kinda fits me really. BTW, to the Blue Moon dude, try their winter version called Full Moon. Also they make a Honey Moon, a Harvest Moon and a Rising Moon. Haven't had any of thise but the Full Moon is great.

My post was more "tongue in cheek" than anything, but Stella Artois is going through huge growing pains right now. Growth in the US and globally has been tremendous, sometimes far exceeding brewing capacity. Sometimes when that happens, quality can suffer. While Stella Artois claims a brewing heritage back to 1366, they really haven't been a global beer all that long. Stella Artois was first imported into the USA in 1999, Heineken achieving that mark in 1933, 2 weeks after Prohibition ended, claiming the title of the first beer imported into the USA after prohibition ended. So Heineken has a lot of experience brewing a lot of beer, maintaining the quality, and importing it into the USA. Globally Stella Artois sells about 10 Million Hectoliters, and Heineken sells about 23 Million Hectoliters. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better of course.

Heineken isn't open coded, but it is fairly easy to decode the "brew date." It will have a a code on the back something like "7162528c1940." The first letter is the last digit of the year, in this case 2007. The next three digits are the Julian date, in this case 162, meaning the 162nd day of 2007. So this particular bottle was brewed on June 11th, 2007. Try to keep it under 6 months for best quality. In reality, green bottles are the 2nd worst glass color for beer, with clear being the absolute worst (Corona.) But consumers (especially Americans) have equated green glass with high end premium beer. The beer is only really damaged in green or clear glass when exposed to light. So single serve will be the most "damaged", with sealed cases and 12 packs being the least damaged. So if you can, try to buy 12 packs or full cases (like at Costco) in beer that is in green bottles. Brown bottles protect the beer the best, but are still affected by light, just at a slower rate. The best beer will always be from a keg (no light at all), followed by brown glass in sealed cases, followed by all other glass colors in sealed cases. Light also affects milk, so buy it is in 1/2 gallon cartons instead of plastic jugs.

In comparison, every bottle of Heineken sold in the USA is brewed at Zoeterwoude, Holland. When I'm not drinking the company brew, I love a hoppy IPA, especially from Bridgeport (out of Oregon.) Guinness is also damn tasty, when I'm in the mood for a stout. As for bars that brew their own, it can be hit or miss. Rock Bottom and the Ram brew their own (local to me), and their stuff is pretty decent. But some of it is like playing the lottery; sometimes you win (good beer), sometimes you lose (an off batch.) Since they brew on a micro scale, batch to batch variance can be huge. That is great if you are adventorous, but terrible when you have a beer you love, but the next time it sucks. Honestly, outside of the real shit beer (we call it Value or Below Premium in the industry), almost all beer is pretty decent. Yes, even Budweiser is pretty decent. We want people to first be a beer drinker, and enjoy beer. Then we want them to enjoy better beer, like Heineken. But with so many beverages competing for what is sometimes called "share of stomach", it is difficult to make the connection with the consumer and keep them. Wine and Spirits have made huge gains in the last couple of years, eroding the share of beer. And things like energy drinks and other "new age" beverages have also had an impact. One can only drink so many liquids in a day, and today there are so many liquids to choose from....
