How do dealers calculate their invoice?

I've spoken to a few dealerships who are disagreeing with me on how to calculate the invoice. I am using the documents provided in the sticky threads and they are telling me its wrong. They are trying to cheat me by saying that their invoice is not calculated that way.

My dealer was spot on with the invoice prices. Sounds like they might be yanking you around unless they are talking about MACO and the training fee, which are legit.

I got 2-3 quotes, all on target on the invoice that was posted here. I would find another dealer if I were you......

just one dealer said that the invoice is a certain percentage of the MSRP. the others one did pretty much agree with the pdf file on the sticky thread and did mention the MACO and training fee. they said training fee of 100 + advertising fee of 380 + floor mats of 100, does this seem right?

That is true on the invoice prices, they are a percentage off of the MSRP. I forget which models are which but most are 8% and a few are 7%. If you calculate it out, the invoice prices work out to those percentages. The options (at least on my E90) all worked out to be about a 9% markup.

I'm paying $180 for the training fee and $125 for MACO and my dealer threw in floor mats for free. From what I've read MACO can vary by market, but I'm not sure about the training fee. Both prices I'm paying were the same at every dealer in my area, so I'm assuming I didn't get screwed too badly. Your MACO does seem high, but that's what it might be in the NJ area. Maybe somebody else from the area can comment?

I don't know what it is in NJ, but it does vary across regions due to varying advertising costs. Once again YMMV comes into play.
