328i (N51) Radiator Fan
Here is the situation...I have a 2011 328i xDrive with N51 engine and about 32k miles. Car runs perfectly and had no issues with it so far.
One thing however bothers me, radiator fan would come on full speed after I park and leave it idling for few minutes. This happens whether is 10F or 80F deg outside, same thing. So before I go bitching about i at the dealership, does anybody else have same issue? There is no SES light... |

The heat must be removed from the radiator somehow. And since the car is not moving there is no natural airflow so a fan must be used. I'd say there is nothing wrong with your car. You could ask your dealer to check the error codes just to be sure.

I understand that the fan must kick in after some time to remove the heat from the radiator, but after only 3 min running in subzero ambient temperature?
I've owned lot of different cars and on some of them fan would never come on, at least not unless it's 100F outside and AC is running. It seems that BMW engines are running hotter than engines in other cars, for whatever reason. Next time I take it for service I'll mention to have it at least checked for codes. |

When this happened to me my water pump and thermostat went out but at 59k miles and we were racing up a mountain. For a car that new I wouldn't think it would go out but hey it's a BMW (Mercedes guy here)
