Lost Accident Report

I got into a fender bender back in october on the BQE in brooklyn. I live out on long island so I never got a chance to go into the police station to get my accident report and they wouldn't mail it to me.

It has now been 6 months and my accident report has yet to be registered on the dmv website and the police station is telling me that they keep absolutely NO records of prior accidents. Do I have any options besides to just suck it up and pay for the damage myself?

Any insight would be great, thanks!
