CLA45 AMG vs. Audi R8 (V8)

Honestly, I'm surprised.

Some folks bash the CLA45 because of how the price climbs when you load it out. However, its performance is quite impressive.

I've read countless times that it has some of the best standard brakes out there, period. And it has a true DCT.

But it looks like egg sliced in half. I know, that should not matter, but eggs are dull.

Dam, racing on a rainy wet day. I don't care what kind of tires you are running, the moment you have a little flip of the wheel, the chances of spinning out and doing some damage is high.

Haha no big deal though, most people will only see this car's exhaust as it pulls away.

Well, at least it's a closed course with two AWD cars.

My thoughts exactly. A little 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo hanging with the high-revving V8.

Why? The Mitsi Evo is an absolute animal. Another car with a 2.0L 4-cyl turbo. I'm not surprised at all.

Yeah, the comment kind of made clear I had nothing to complain about. Which is weird.

True, but it still impresses me that this car can perform like this and get 30mpg, whereas the Evo is rated at what . . 20-21?

Hey, the lights! There is a fault, it has tiny eyes and a lot of liner! See, I'm a pro at finding these.

Haha well done!

The color is very chameleon-like in person. You could easily mistake it for black in low light conditions or at night.

I wish Glacier Silver and Estoril Blue were available for the F80. Haven't seen Silverstone in the flesh for a while.

Go crazy with this one, you already have a ride to park at the office! And please, remember this choice is supposed to be hell, I still manage to use too much time with it, and not for example answering my emails.

Be a kid, I think the respectable choices are just too damn tamed, and that is a thing to avoid!

Still, that Nordic looks good, I may even end up googling more samples.

Trust me, BMW's making it very easy for people to mock them. The company seems to make decisions with wildly varying levels of success. On one hand, they do rather well when it comes to their bread and butter staples, but damn, do they know how to make some oddballs.

Haha, that I tend to like! I hate when things just stand still, and nothing new is to be expected. I couldn't buy a merc ever, but if we stay here for more than the time now known, I probably would lease one. They are growing on me, and I blame this forum for that.

Mercedes grew a nice sized pair of cajones around the 2011-2012 mark, when they started refreshing the C-Class, introducing the new CLS, SLK, etc. They've been designing and engineering their cars with less gramps and more, "hey I'm a Mercedes, wanna fidaboutit?", which is what more automakers need to be like. You've got to love them for that.

It's lighter and more affordable, to start. I also like to think that it's essentially taking your S65 (well, the 4.2 FSI which seems almost identical) and shoving it into a mid-engined, rear-biased AWD setup. What's not to like?

As idiotic reason as that is, I agree.
The new line of bmw's for example look too soft, too many will just drool on them. Bad ass is always needed!

There still is a large segment of people who will buy it for the looks and image it conveys, with performance being a distant second concern. I know a few at my work who love the R8, and would definitely get the V8 over the 10 just to be in one cheaper (if only relatively so).

Depends on whether or not you care about what others think. It's supposedly a sublime drive at the limit and on a daily basis. I wouldn't be worried if the guy sitting next to me in his ____ can outgun me because I'd be too busy having fun.

I bet that's a large part of it, but I think it's a little saddening that there's so much fixation on straight line performance these days. The R8 has a great chassis. There's much more to it.
