Want some exclusivity? Buy a Volkswagen
Just making fun that BMW sold more cars than VW in November.
NOT that this is important, but it is somehow weird. VW must be doing something very wrong... |

BMW sold more 3 series cars in the UK than Ford sold Mondeos last year. More people want premium brands than before and BMW has done lots of subsidizing of leases, etc., so their cars are generally more accessible than they used to be.

VW's are not bad cars but they need some fresh models. And they neither hit mainstream America nor they have enough appeal and brand prestige for people who want something a bit more luxurious or at least sportive.
Obviously they are very successful in Europe. |

They're not prestigious or luxurious cars... they're Vdubs. The GM of Germany.
The GTI is alright (not great, just alright), but the rest are ugly.

I think the Jetta/Rabbit and Passat are good looking cars too. Plus, in MY06, the VW Jetta was the only US Spec Diesel car available. I love the fuel mileage, and the diesel with a stick is just a breeze to drive. They are also a lot roomier than the 3-series, and it still handles great @ 200kph on the autobahn.

My opinion is completely aesthetic based. I like the old body style Jetta; and I love the interior of my buddies GTI. I just think the exterior of the current lineup looks bloated. Looks like they're over-inflated.

The Touareg is the truth. It's especially perfect on flooded roads. It even steals the corner of my sig pic.

VW's are great cars--had two myself. My mom has a new Jetta and my sister has a new GTI--both are great cars. That GTI is a screamer....

Test drove a Passat wagon a few months back. The only two things I remember are that A: the steering was way over-boosted and numb, and B: that even though the demo car was less than a year old, its rotors were already a bit warped.
Had never driven a Volkswagen before, and I can't say that this one did much to make a good first impression. I really want to like Volkswagen. Really, I do. I like the idea of a mainstream German car. It's just that with this company there always seem to be one or two things that really kill it for me.

Have you tried the new Malibu? The Golf/Rabbit competes with the Focus/Cobalt, not the Jetta.
