Wireless Charger - And a hello!
Hi all!
First time posting and wanted to say hi!👋 Just purchased a Mineral White M240i which I collect on Saturday and I’ll be sure to take many pics and post a proper thread. Quick question. Is it possible to disable the wireless charging pad? And how? My GF is a Type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump so is nervous around anything like that or induction hobs as the electro field from them can cause issues with the pump! I know you can turn your phone over so it doesn’t activate etc…but I’d rather just disconnect or switch off for mine and her piece of mind. Thanks all for any help! |

I thought I heard there may be a way to disable it thru coding or I assume there could be a fuse you could pull. Not sure which one though. Good luck and welcome to the club. Last edited by angermgmt20; 01-04-2025 at 07:49 PM.. |

OP is in the Uk and its part of the comfort pack.
Wireless charging only works over a few centimetres so she’d have to be sat pretty much on the charger. Same for nfc which the storage unit uses for the digital key and the comfort access locks. |

Thanks for the posts everyone!
It’s 100% wireless charger as I tested it on the test drive and it started charging my phone. The charging element of the pad might only work with the phone within a few cms but the EMP it gives off can cause issues with the pump up to a meter. I’ll ask the techs if they can just unplug it if there isn’t a way to disable in iDrive. |

Off of the top of my head I can’t remember what pump she has. I’ll ask! But yeah same thing! Airport security is such a pain sometimes when they don’t get she can’t go through the scanners! I’m sure there is a fuse or something that can be pulled just I know with most modern cars, a fuse pull might impact other equipment! I’ll find a solution I’m sure but thanks everyone for the suggestions! Lots of help already 🥳 |

From what I can tell, wireless chargers using the standard protocol are not doing anything at all until a compatible wireless charging device is on the right position over them. Given the potential implications of heating a piece of metal left on them by accident, it seems that would be inherent required safety design.
Have you had issues with wireless chargers in other places and the meter? I get the idea to be safe, but passively emitting magnetic field is not something that is allowed by any regulatory body.

This thread may be helpful...this is from a G87 thread so please keep that in mind(while I own both I have not looked and can't confirm fuses are identical).

The phone overheats from using the wireless charging, but the phone then shuts down the charging and throttles its CPU. This results in slideshow frame rate in android auto and phone not working properly until it cools - but its not damaged.

Most (if not all) electrical components in the vehicle have quick connectors on them - as opposed to being hardwired to the car so you should be able to pop the charge panel off and just disconnect it.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166883853...Bk9SR5jsrY-KZQ If you look at the 3rd photo, you’ll see where the connector is supposed to go. Should be a case of just disconnecting this. |

Well I picked up the car on Saturday!
I’ll do a build thread and a proper post soon but within a few days it’s absolutely filthy 😂 but I’m loving it! Luckily the service tech was able to just pull a fuse and job done! 👍🏻 the sales guy wasn’t sure which one specifically but said it was a solo fuse and not linked to anything else! So it can easily be done if you want to disconnect it and not faff around pulling the charger out to disconnect. Thought I’d post the ending to this as I always hate finding threads online and the OP never says what happened 😂 |
