And who's to say they're any better than this guy? What ever happened with Darfur? All fixed up? I don't think so... Ethiopia? Oh yeah... We rolled in there like the Griswolds rolled into St.Louis.

All the guys above at this page: Agreed.
This is a very hypocritic(?) thread and movie if you ask me, me coming from a country who donates more money per person living here than anywhere in the world to this shit. Not giving one euro at all. Been there done that. Waste of money and waste of time. I know what I'm talking about.... Two years ago: The earthquake disaster in Haiti(which before the distaster already was in chaos for decades, I've been there twice) . Dutch government and TV canals arranged a TV programme/quizz and people donated money, about Euro 50,000,000 in one night(including my wife's 50 euros LOL) and the dutch minister of welfare and third world development doubled it with our taxmoney to 110 milion euros. It's still a chaos and only 10 milion euros reached the goal . The rest was 'gone' into corruption and oblivion. Think about it. Last edited by Robin_NL; 03-08-2012 at 11:20 AM.. |

This same video in 1985 would be about Afghanistan and how we need to donate money to help them get rid of the Russians.

this is not necessarily about raising money as much as it is about raising awareness.

They are trying to raise awareness in order to raise money to try to make a difference. I don't think there is a person in this country who thinks that sub-Saharan Africa is all puppies and rainbows. The place is a disaster and hipsters can't fix it. It is a struggle for power that spans from one ocean to the other and when you take one iconic figure out, another one is happy to step into his shoes and build his own legacy.

The same goes for example Fidel/Raul Castro,Chavez,Amedinejad. Take them out and the next idiot is already waiting for it to take the power, often in a worse manner. (My sister in law lives in Caracas and I have some Cuban friends) |

I think this campaign has been already successful. we are talking about it, aren't we? and did any of this cost anything? no! yes there will always be some thug trying to replace the last one but if we let these people get away with impunity then the next one will be a shoe in. so by the same argument some of you are making, if there was a thug living on your block you would just let them be because there will always be another one waiting to take his place? what kind of a neighborhood would that be? I know the place is not all puppies and rainbows but where is? this is the eternal struggle between good and evil and if you just throw your hands up and give up, then you might as well grab your ankles and kiss your ass goodbye. as far as the hipsters making a difference, I am not exactly ready to drop down to my knees and suck their dicks but didn't their efforts to raise awareness finally pay off with them now controlling their own destiny? I know they have a long way to go but they are on their way. we are all in the age of enlightenment and we can see that by what's going on around the world. people are fed up and they won't take it anymore and sometimes they just need a hero to save the day. come on guys show some compassion

You're comparing lawless Africa, which lacks just about every major component of a real infrastructure, to a thug on my block in the US? I think that's a bit of a stretch. They are trying to put out a wildfire that spans a continent with the equivalent of a super soaker. Short of full fledged ground war, all of this is just as you say... raised awareness and lots of talk. Uganda had an Army that has been unsuccessful up to this point. Now they have their army plus 100 US troops who are not their to pick up guns and they still can't find this guy. When that "good" army takes over, who's to say they won't be hacking up villagers and raping women? We've been down this road before...

I just don't understand the rational that an evil individual shouldn't be eliminated simply because someone else will take his place. Makes no sense!
Sort of like saying, "Why cure breast cancer? There will just be something else that will kill a woman." Or, "Why cure prostate cancer? You'll just die of some other cancer." STUPID! What this boils down to is: This evil African guy isn't threatening me, so why should I give a crap? A classic "me, me, me; it's all about me" attitude. And so what if there's an avalanche of media coverage? Does that make it any more or less a problem? A problem is a problem regardless of whether you hear it from Fox News or a girl scout. I would agree with those who question where the money goes. But I think this is much more about awareness than money. And yes, people should do a little research and listen to both sides before sending off their hard-earned money to a cause. My three cents. |

I'm all about human rights and I feel for the kids still affected by Kony of course, but the "stop Kony" movement is a huge waste of time. You are trying to stop a problem perpetrated by half a continent by capturing one of them and paying the rest. This whole situation is just a bandwagon which the trendy kids have jumped on without doing any research. Nobody gave a fuck about Kony three days ago; nobody will in three months. It is unfortunately just a fad. Such a willfully ignorant spread of information is not only unhelpful to this "cause" but in all likelihood detrimental to it. My suspicion is that if these hipsters ACTUALLY gave a shit then they would have done some research. |
