For me this is one of those cars where I find the color matters A LOT. For me the best color is BSM however I also bought my M2 competition in BSM so I’m a bit biased. However in BSM it reminds me A LOT of my F87 M2C. I originally was thinking M4 Comp as my local dealer was willing to sell one to me 10k under MSRP which actually puts it right next to a fully specced M2. However I just couldn’t do it with the front bumper. The M2 while not immediately beautiful like the F87 was, I think will grow on people over time, much more than the M4/M3.

I’ve said it before on other threads, but great design should be polarizing. It shouldn’t be openly accessible for the masses. I thought it looked odd at first, but it has really grown on me. I love this funny looking robot car. I applaud BMW for taking risks instead of the tame and standard design updates other manufacturers do.

Truth told if my 2020 M4CS was totaled I would absolutely be shopping for a M2. I don't love it but it doesn't make me nauseated like the 3 and 4's.
Here is my theory, BMW knows they screwed the pooch on the 3's and 4's and the 2 is their back track on grill/snout design. Sales of 2's is at the cost of 3 and 4 sales. All the newer designs show a downsizing and effort to de-emphasize to grill/snout.

The XM shows that BMW hasn't given up the big grill addiction yet.

Not sure of the dates but didn't the prototypes of the XM show up before the M2 revision? The XM grill is still way smaller that a 3 or 4 series shout. The XM is hideous and they even literally put lipstick on that pig.

I don't know, and TBH the less I know about the XM the better.

3. Interior is give or take the same.

4. I wanted a 6MT. Yes you can get the M3 in 6MT, but why would you do that when the M3 comp (and x-drive) exists?

5. I have an excuse to not have friends “ride along” because I can’t fit them lol.

6. It’s unique. Every G80 I pull up on or that pulls up on me shows me respect with the simple head nod or quick rev. I can’t say the same about the G82’s because unortunately they are stuck with a boat of a car and just upset about it (oops I said it).

If I never got a G87, I would be in the G80 all day as my love for that car will never diminish and I respect the hell out of it.

It’s really what best fits your lifestyle I would say. Can’t go wrong with either!

As for Porsche- GT3 Touring 6MT is my current dream car. I can’t justify owning a Porsche unless it is a GT3 Touring. Anything under that and I’d just be envious. But that’s just me.
Agreed 100%

I cross shopped the M3 as well and it lacked some of the E46/E92 feel I was looking for. Plus, with it being 4 door, I get annoyed by the B pillar being in front of my left shoulder. BMW also put some "heritage" in the styling of the G80. You really can see some E30 in those flares. I was surprised by how many people pull into your blindspot on the highway and when you look over, they are checking out your car. (always dudes, usually with sporty cars themselves) Those side flares get a lot of attention.

Also agree with the GT3, but be warned,if you get one, you will become obnoxious. It ruins every other car for you. You'll marvel at weird things like how perfect the pedal arrangements are..LOL. My people are from brooklyn, so whenever I get pizza anywhere else, I snob-up and say it is not as good as in my hometown. Same with the GT3. Everything you compare it to will be like, "Well, compared to the shifter on my GT3...."

Good luck getting a GT3 Touring allocation unless you are a great repeating customer at a Porsche dealership. If not, they will laugh at you.

Also, they jack up the prices of used GT3’s.

I have already gotten several compliments, thumbs up and people videoing or photographing my M2. Much more so than my 911. So the M2 is definitely attention grabbing and seems to garner positive praise.

Very true. I am one of those customers but the dealer still wanted me to buy a watch, full PPF through them (2x market cost) tire and wheel insurance plus God knows what else as part of the allocation purchase. Oh and they now have you sign paperwork saying you won’t sell at for at least a year. The dealers are working hard to try to get any equity out of your car before you even take delivery. I also was offered a Dakar and it was just as crazy.

What kind of watch is Porsche selling? Is it anything of value or some Quartz movement POS? WTF

No, it is mechanical made in Switzerland through Porsche Design.

https://www.porsche-design.com/us/en...lt-timepieces/

It’s kind of confusing since Porsche also has an aggressive marketing plan with Tag Heuer.

Good info; yeah, that’s a hard pass for the the Porsche Design watch with what’s probably an ETA moment. I’m not a tag fan but it’s nice. Not for another $6,500 but if someone can afford a new 911 their probably not going to sweat the watch to get car… kind of sad this is the experience buy the car IMO

Yeah, the market for some of this stuff is ridiculous. Ferrari treats potential customers like shit. Porsche is now doing the same thing indirectly through their awful dealer network.
Rolex dealers do the same thing not wanting to allocated pieces unless you buy a bunch of shit from them that you don't want or need.

I was watching this '24 m2 and noticed it didn't have a sunroof

i thought it was either sunroof or CF only? so we can do sunroof delete and save $800 (or w/e value)?

BMW Canada did a great job with the G87 in offering more configurability than most markets, lower prices and delivery by rail (avoiding the ship delays), in my opinion.

Wish they offered a sunroof delete for us but since they don't I'll spec mine with the CF roof when the time comes. Proving the point, BMW understands its markets.

as a former M2C owner, I wasn't a huge fan the first time I saw the car static with the silver wheels

I just saw it for the first time in motion on the streets on the other day with the black wheels and the car has definite presence

it's got a real muscularity to it, I like it

That's pretty crazy huh. You would think the sunroof delete would make the M2 much easier & cheaper to build. That's a damn shame they can't figure out how to make this 3rd option a reality. On a coupe, this would be a great look for many people.
