I have compared my F87 to the M240i and the G42 design is definitely more elongated compared to the F87.From the side the F87 looks perfectly proportioned. The front part of the G42 is longer giving the design that elongated look.Maybe the updated fenders on the G87 will help lessen that elongated look. These aren’t the greatest pics but they show the difference between the two designs.
Different strokes

I personally think the f87 looks unfinished and disproportional. It's like the car grew upward, became more bulky, but stayed basically the same length as e46 M3.

Some like it. Some don't. Same reason why I never found the 1M to be attractive. It's the ugliest M car ever made IMO.

To me, without a doubt, the best looking M car of all time was the e46 M3. The most perfect proportions, bumpers, flares, etc. especially the CSL.

G87 has the closest (modern) look to an e46 M3, especially the front end, which is why I like it. Profile looks awesome too. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the rear.

That front end grill on the M2 is boring!!! Designed by an old man for an old man I guess.....
G42 is much nicer especially in person and even more if you own one!!!! For what you get at double the price....keep it!!!

is it just me or some people just seem to come here not to add anything of value but to have a dig at the F87 as if intentionally Worse is when someone own an M2/M2C and then find all the wrong design about it and yet surely before they buy it, they clearly can see what it looks like.
I own a F87 M2C and love the look otherwise i wouldn't have but i'm also very much looking forward to the G87 and likely to get it anyway. I don't hate, i just wait with an open mind until it's fully revealed.

Same, there are lot of children on this forum who have time to complain about everything they see.

I disagree.

Owning one and seeing it in photos are worlds apart.

I thought the f87 M2C looked good in the photos, which is why I bought it. But when I became an owner and saw it daily from multiple angles, my eyes started to pick up on things in 3D that I didn't like. After all, we are 3D creatures. I noticed contours and lines that were starting to bother me. Especially the squashed look.

My last BMW before that was an e46 M3 that I owned for 12 years. So that was my reference point. The M2 just looked off to me from many angles and it's something that I could never get over. It never "grew" on me. That's why I owned it for only 6 months. I also couldn't stand how numb the steering was, but that's an entirely different topic.

Now, all of this is extremely subjective and it's not a dig. Some like it more with time and others don't. I'm merely sharing my observation. Not sure how many of you who love the f87 styling also loved the e46 M3. Probably none, but I digress.

Regardless, we're all here to share our experience and nobody is forced to agree. No need to get worked up over styling likes and dislikes.

This thread is about the upcoming G87 M2, so it's only natural that people compare it to the prior M2. That's the whole point of threads like this one; to share opinions, none of which are "wrong".

It kinda looks like a Subaru/Toyota project for some reason...but I don't hate it.

I'll take that compliment
Thats true. These new m car fronts are atrocious and the regular version look better. Esp m340 vs m3.

That being its a bit meh to me. But not unbearable lol. It more mature than last gen, sort of the route civic type r went. I like last gen since it looks so sleek up front.

You gotta be kidding me. The previous M2C looks great from all angles, especially with carbon parts. It's probably the one of the best looking BMW of all time.
I agree that it was dated from the start. I had an M2C and lost interest in about 5 months because it was just too safe looking of a design that didn't feel cutting edge or fresh at all. Reminded me of my e92 m3 too much, and kind of had a feminine "barbie car" vibe since it looked short and cartoonish

Oh man, you're in for a rude awakening. The G series 2 is actually quite a bit smaller on the inside than the F series 2 cars. Like, a lot smaller. If you thought it was a chics car before, the G87 is designed for 12 year old girls then.
Sad :-(

Anyone that ends every sentence with "!!!" and tries to demean something by saying it's for "girls" or "chics" is clearly a teen acne face virgin who's mommy just got an 230i that they drive and are butthurt whenever they see a F87 pullup alongside them.

Thought it would be entertaining to compare spy shots of the E82 1M, F87 M2 and new M2 to see how the fender flares looked on the spy shots.

As you can see all 3 have wide hips, the 1M had a different style of flares while the two M2s have more similar profiles. The new M2 definitely wider than the M240i.

I think one of them is head and shoulders above the rest.

I agree, a lot of children come to cry on this forum.
They need their mommy to give them a candy and something to pacify them, otherwise they will show their rudeness towards a great car. Jealous infants… 😂

Some kids on this forum deserve to ride bicycles only. They have no clue what they are blabbering.
