I actually use my credit card almost exclusively when I'm overseas. No fees and I'm not worried about getting robbed for it. I'll bring like $400e total for 7-10 days in Europe for those places that don't take plastic.

That's exactly what I do. Given that I also continue to let my spend work for me in the form of rewards, I will take that over spending/carrying cash over and over again.
