New Delivery: Meet Harold (The purple M240)

Well, 4 months later and it finally arrived! I couldn’t be happier with my spec. The thundernight metallic and cognac interior really pops and looks amazing in day/night. I also opted to go with the M interior door lighting. I was concerned that it would look gimmicky, but I think it is a nice touch and really adds a sense of mood to the experience. The red calipers are subjective to some, but I like the contrast a lot (I’ve never had painted calipers before). To me, the fender extensions and bicolor wheels really help to fill in the wheel wells of the car and gives a great stance. I found myself opening the garage door multiple times just to admire it and make sure it was still there!

I picked it up Wednesday and already put 200 miles on it! I’m still getting acclimated to iDrive 7 (my first BMW) but so far this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Like many others on the forum, my car has been delayed several times and a few features have been deleted due to the semiconductor shortage (capacitive touch wheel, wireless charging, passenger lumber adjuster). There were times where I thought about canceling but after a long thought, I was okay with the changes as they wouldn’t really impact my ownership experience as much as I previously thought.

Now that the car is here, I am so happy that I didn’t cancel. What was I thinking?!! For those who have been disheartened with the lack of allocations and production delays, please know that your patience will be rewarded!

Looks fantastic. Almost my same build scheduled for week 25, except I opted for the Shadowline instead of the Cerium gray accents and standard door cards instead of the illuminated M trim.

Thanks for giving me something to look at while my build is still a month from production.

Gotta go with the red calipers on Thundernight! The blue's just don't look quite right with the purple.

Congrats on the new ride!

Congrats. Looks great.

I also opted for the cognac interior and red calipers, although with a BSM exterior. I think the cognac actually works well with all the exterior colors. I’ve already had multiple positive comments from friends and neighbors on the look and especially the cognac interior.

The more you drive this car the more it impresses, extremely fast, exceptional cornering and also a great daily! It’s actually hard to get out of!

Being that I’m in King of Prussia, I’m not too far from you. In comfort setting the M240i also does a good job on our poor PA roads, especially for a small, sporty coupe.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks Bob! It’s nice to know there are more local forum
Members and M240 drivers in the Philly area. I agree about the cognac interior. At first, I was not so sure about the sensitech, but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest and goes well with pretty much any exterior color. It really glows in the sunlight. Comfort mode has exceeded my expectations with how smooth it rides and did a good job soaking up the bumps in Bucks County (we have shockingly bad roads here..). I’ll keep a lookout for your car on the road. Maybe we will pass each other! 🤷

Yep, I am aware of the thread on this and will see what I can find out! I just haven’t been in a position to lift the car and pull the wheel off. That would be the most accurate way to measure the diameter unless you have other suggestions. I will add a close up picture in the interim for comparison.

Hi. Thank you! These are the options I chose. I believe that M adaptive suspension is standard with the cooling/HP tire package in the United States (I could be wrong on this). Adaptive cruise control was no longer available at the time I ordered, but would have added it if it were possible.

Options:
Thundernight Metallic
Cognac Sensitech
Premium Package (incl. live cockpit pro, HUD, adaptive LED, etc.)
Cooling & High Performance Tire Package
Parking Assistance Package (360 surround view, parking assistance plus, active park distance control)
Aluminum Tetragon Trim
Drive Recorder
Harmon Kardon
Illuminated M Trim
Remote Engine Start
Red Calipers

So you have the M-tech package yet it didn't automatically opt you in for the black chrome package?

Is that possible in the states only? I remember Looking few months back here in Canada and the MTech pkg (cooling & tires) would force you into the black chrome option as well.

I believe while shadowline is an individual option, the m tech package adds more bits to shadowline.

In the US, you can choose either the grey accenting or the shadow line trim regardless of what options you have. This may have changed with the 2023/iDrive8 rollout. I specifically wanted the grey accenting for my build to add contrast and to make it look like the press car.

Thanks man. I am probably the minority here when it comes to black accenting trim, but I think it works best with lighter paints, like Melbourne Red, Brooklyn Grey, Portimao Blue and Mineral White. Otherwise it seems to lose its contrast. Unless you are going for that blacked out look, which is also really cool. Of all the grey accenting out there, I think BMW does it the best with their matte grey finish.

Congrats! How's the Sensatec? It looks softer than the leather options, and I might go that route myself.

Me too, I have the Thundernight with Tacora (i know really LOUD combo) but spec'd identically otherwise to yours. And I personally love the cerium bits VS all gloss black. To me it gives the front end more of a presence.

Honestly, the sensatech is extremely nice. Very soft and comfortable. I have zero issues choosing sensatec over leather. My dad has it in his 2005 330i and it still looks great after all these years. Whatever BMW did to design/develop it, they absolutely got it right.

Nice!! I actually almost chose the Tacora as well! I agree, it’s loud, but makes a huge statement with Thundernight Metallic. Not many people can pull it off, but if you have the self confidence, and the type of person who shows up to social events with colored pants, you can pull it off. That’s all you need brother!
