Did you read the thread before commenting? The article is wrong. The rwd m240i weighs 1635 kg. So how is the M2 going to weigh 175kg more than the 240?

I posted a photo of where I got my numbers. Your numbers are based on this thread? You think the folks testing this car didn't have access the the M240 weight data? Clearly they were told that it weighed 35 kg more than the M3 which is why they included that data point in the article and that's where the 1800 kg came from. Which is similar to the previous M2 comp being heavy and similar to the M3.

PS - I hope it's light but history says otherwise.

I based my numbers on the actual numbers provided by BMW for the weight of the rwd 240i. Again, you would have known that if you’d read the thread.

During the prototype test drives BMW said the G87 M2's weight will fall in between the weight of the F87 M2 (3,600 lbs) and a G82 M4 (3,840 lbs). According to BMW USA's site the G80 weighs 3,830 lbs, only 10 lbs less than the M4. 35kg converts to 77 lbs. This pretty much confirms the numbers from the article are wrong. They were either given bad information or just made an honest mistake.

What if it's the exact opposite and it turns out to be 35kg lighter? That would be welcomed news.

Absolutely. Some people want this car to be some bantam weight thing but unfortunately it won't be. Having been on these forums for many years, the weight conversations are all over the place. Some will pick and choose lightest number they find and hang their hat on it.

The M2 and M3 have been similar weight and the M variant of a series being heavier isn't shocking. These new cars also come with lots of standard equipment and performance parts that drives up weight. I'm preparing for a 3.800+ lb M2 but I'm ok with it if it drives well (which current reviews say it does). I'm not racing paper stats.

The car isn't going to be light. It's the job of the M engineers to make it feel like it is. I have faith they will.

Did they specify which version of the G82? If it's the base M4 with the manual then that weighs 3,709lbs according to C&D

They just said between the M2 and M4, but not what version or transmission type of either car. Not sure how C&D got that weight, maybe they actually put it on the scales? The weight I provided for the M4 is what's listed on BMW USA's website for the base RWD M4 with AT. They don't list the weight for MT.

I've found C&D to be pretty reliable when it comes to reporting weight. They listed the M240i xdrive's weight at 3877lbs which I believe to be accurate after putting mine on a scale with me inside of it which weighed around 4,060lbs and I'm roughly 190lbs

Saw that too, but I have to say if I had the $$$ Chris Harris does I'd hang onto the CS. He already has a 1M; keeping the CS and adding the G87 would be the trifecta of baby M cars. Why on Earth would you get rid of the very best F87 if you have the means to keep it is beyond me. I wish I had that problem, because I have the solution.

Pretty sure he got rid of the 1M. Crazy to me that he'd do that given his love for cars and resources. End of the day, even the most enthusiast of journalists seem to get rid of cars that I wouldn't ever dare to part with.
