Does my car have swirl flaps?
My car is an E92 335D registered in Sept 2011, ("61" Plate)
I believe the engine is a M57N2 or ?? M57D30 I have read various reports on the internet that state that BMW STOPPED using swirl flaps in 2008 and then I have also read that the above engines have swirl flaps fitted that can be removed and blanked off. Is there an easy way to tell if the car, (engine) has swirl flaps or not without taking the inlet manifold off? I would be grateful to know what the situation is Thanks |

Yes it will have had them from the factory, but they could have been blanked previously.
On the M57 you can tell with a torch & mirror if you remove the engine cover and look under the inlet manifold.

I thought that this engine had flaps - but then I keep reading that after 2008 BMW discontinued using swirl flaps - presumably they mean newer model engines from 2008 |

Even newer engines have it, my 2010 330d has the later N57 engine, they still have swirl flaps albeit a totally different design.
