Current Aftermarket Exhaust Options

I’ve come to resign about getting an M2 this year, so now I’m looking at making the best out of my G42 until BMW figures out what the **** they’re doing. One of the things I would like to improve is the sound profile of my car. The stock exhaust just isn’t loud enough from the interior of the cabin. Aftermarket support was pretty weak when I first got my car in March of last year. I’m just wondering what folks have been installing or doing to their cars recently?

Get an AA downpipe first. It's the best bang for buck mod that increases sound and power.

Then, if you want to go full kraut, have at it. I decided to plunk down cash and pre-order a Remus system. Expected to ship mid June, unfortunately.

I second the AA motion. It really woke up the exhaust on my car. I've had it for a week and still haven't gotten to hear it from the outside, but from inside it sounds great.

I was originally considering the Akrapovic system, but I'm glad I did it this way. If I ultimately decide I need more sound, I'll get the OEM M Performance exhaust.

Miltek, Remus, FI, Akrapovic, and a few other companies have exhausts for the car either on sale now or in preproduction. I think I read Dinan was working on one as well.

Do you have a part number for the OEM performance exhaust?

18-30-5-A3B-F69 for the M240i.

Not sure about the 230i.

Oddly enough, buying the Active Autowerke downpipe and the OEM MP exhaust is still about $3,000 cheaper than the Akrapovic system.

Thanks. I’m gonna talk to my dealership about ordering this.

Speaking of the dealership ordering M Performance parts...

If you order BMW M Performance parts and have the dealer install them, does it maintain the warranty?

+1 for Akrapovic.. but its not cheap. Get the titanium to shed weight as well as performance...go big or go home.

That’s the premise of M Performance parts. I’ve had aftermarket brand exhausts over the years too and the dealerships never gave me warranty trouble. Anything that doesn’t modify the power train is basically harmless.

Wanted to give folks a breakdown after speaking to a few dealerships about the M performance exhaust. The best quote I got was:

$2030 for the exhaust (18-30-5-A3B-F69)
$130 for the two clamps (18-30-7-560-780 & 18-30-7-560-781)
$820 for 3.5 hours of labor

$3000~ OTD.

Basically a down payment on an M2. That's a pretty steep commitment for something I haven't heard in person.

Seems like that's the cheapest OTS option on the market right now, even at $3000.

From the videos I've seen, th M Performance exhaust is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite sound. Milltek is my #1 and the one clip I've heard of the Remus exhaust was very pleasing.

Buy the exhaust and clamps from a vendor on here and take to the local shop it’s a 1hr job if that and save $1000

That’s the idea as of now, yeah. Dealership labor rates are getting out of control.

I have the cat-back Milltek on mine. Sounds great. My car is actually for sale in the Member’s section.

I ordered my M performance exhaust from GetBMWparts. It was $2267 shipped for everything. I will be adding the AA downpipe at some point, sound is good volume is a tad quiet.

Are you saying the car is still quiet even with the M Performance exhaust? That's a bummer.

The M Performance exhaust is $1788.43 with BMW Parts Warehouse (aka BMW of San Fran). Shipping to my zip in Utah is under $95. I put zips for Miami, FL and Bangor, ME...shipping was still under $125. After adding the clamps, as well, the total with shipping to the East Coast is $2004.xx.

https://www.bmwpartswarehouse.com/oe...20-18305a3bf69

As someone else said, find a reputable local shop to do the install. There's no way in hell they'll charge over $300, especially since they aren't welding anything or bending any pipe. With the leftover cash, you could easily get a nice pair of tips to put on it...or buy an intake even.

Was trying to find Remus too but can't seem to find any one in US selling these. Would you mind sharing where you ordered? Thanks!

I’m waiting on the Dinan exhaust which has already been confirmed to be in development. They mentioned elated with supply chain so here’s hoping it gets released soon.

Are they coming out with a catback system?
